AKG k167 vs HD558 (other suggestions...)
Hands down the AKG Q460's are the greatest on ear headphones I have ever owned. They should be able to be aquired for around $120. Great for portable use and comfortable. Bass is solid but not overpowering.- Turkeybaster

I bought the Q series on ears and absolutely love them. They are my new portables but havent taken the plunge into the Q701. Anyone know if they share the same tone? I had the 272's and didnt care for the lack of base?- Turkeybaster

+1 Billson, I have the AKG 551's and though they are closed back they have a huge soundstage and are comfortable for long listening periods. 551's are the portable version of the 550's and might need an extension cable for home use but would be a great offer for your listening tastes. Closed Headphones for $300 or under
