Bowers and Wilkins PX8 Wireless Discussion
10% is way too low. Lithium ion batteries don't like being discharged below 30%. I've owned my PX8 for 4 months now, and haven't noticed any degredation in battery life or had any charging issues (knock on wood). I typically charge it when it gets to about 35% to 40%. I use my Samsung fast...- JoePR31

I agree with all the feedback @Denkmal gave you regarding this...but there's one more area of concern that's specific to the PX8. On the PX8, all parts of it that aren't made out of metal are covered in a very soft and supple Nappa leather. While the leather doesn't seem to be fragile, I doubt...- JoePR31

Its been about 6 years since I've listened to any V-Moda headphones, but I'm sure my old M100's pale in comparison to my PX8s in practically every way, except for price. I'm sure you'd find the PX8 to be substantially better. The question is whether or not you would feel that their superiority...- JoePR31

My Elegia sound too thin for my ears when driven straight from a phone. Even though they're technically easy to drive, I find that they don't really come alive until they're plugged into a decent desktop amp. Then the low end fills in some, and the famous Focal dynamics become more apparent...- JoePR31

Sorry, haven't been on here in a few days so just now saw your question. I personally think that the difference between wired vs wireless over AptX HD so small that it isn't worth while plugging in. That does change if you listen using an iOS device with AAC, or a Samsung device with regular...- JoePR31

Whats the lowest that you've let the battery drain down to? In order to maximize battery life, it's good practice to not let lithium ion batteries drain below 30%, and also to not charge them to higher than 85%.- JoePR31

This right here! There's no way that my PX8 has more bass than my P9, yet that's exactly what the headphones.com graph shows. I'm not some unreasonable fanboy, but that graph just doesn't reflect what I hear, and that isn't normal for me. I typically find that graphs from most reputable...- JoePR31

@Resolve , one page back @Denkmal asked you if the specific PX8 you tested is the only one you've had a a chance to listen to and measure. I'm curious about that as well. I won't question the harmonic and compression issues that you noticed, even though I haven't noticed anything that sounds...- JoePR31

I haven't been able to listen to the video yet, but Resolve posted in this thread a couple of weeks ago, and he made it clear that he HATES the PX8. More often than not, I agree with most of his conclusions regarding headphones, but not in this case. I found it strange how over the top he was...- JoePR31

I watched the video I was referring to a couple of years ago. It was posted by YouTube content creator GYMCADDY. He includes sound tests in practically all of his headphone comparison tests. He's not an audiophile, he's not good at judging headphone technical performance, he typically only...- JoePR31

Hence why I specified that there's only some value if the listener is listening via neutral headphones. I personally did find some value in a specific "sound test" involving a large number of noise cancelling headphones. I'd listened to and compared most of them in person, and while what you...- JoePR31

Those tests only have some value under one set of circumstances...if the listener is wearing fairly neutral headphones while listening to the test, and the "sound test" also includes additional headphones. In that scenario, the listener can get a general idea of how the sound signatures of the...- JoePR31

I took some photos when I first bought my PX8, but got busy and didn't post them. It seems like the 007 Edition is more popular than expected..considering the extra $100 USD. Here's mine. Assuming that my post was one of the ones you're referring to, I did make it very clear that I didn't have bulletproof scientific evidence to back my statements. Did you skip over that part? While I wouldn't call it scientific, I did have the opportunity to listen to a fresh out of the box P9...- JoePR31

Philips Fidelio X2?!
I hadn't listened to my X2 in years, but I pulled it out of its box last week and listened for a few minutes off of my Mojo. In technical performance, it doesn't fare well at all vs the PX8, except when it comes to soundstage. Its got a much wider stage than the PX8. The PX8 takes it pretty...- JoePR31

I like the video game analogy...lol. Do you own the Verite Closed? If you do, I might shoot you a DM or ask you about it in the VC thread if you're active in that one. It's shaping up to be my next conquest.- JoePR31

I envy you. My wife is very quick to spot "upgrades"...even when they're similar in appearance. I've learned she gets over it faster if I do get permission ahead of time. The P9 is a very conflicting headphone...and not one that is easily appreciated. It does a lot of things wrong. It's...- JoePR31

This! The OG PX had pads with rims so thin that it felt like I was strapping wine glasses to my head. And the P9 is a beautiful, ergonomic mess. Even after breaking them in to the point where they're literally breaking, they're still not comfortable enough for me to use for more than 30 minutes...- JoePR31

Why are some people so resistant to the idea that there are some minor physical changes as a headphone driver wears in?
