The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)
What is a great sub $1K closed back headphone that's super comfortable (especially for larger ears) that has great detailed bass that extends very deep (very rumbly, love sub-bass), but is otherwise overall a bit neutralish. Or neutral with slight bass emphasis? Was considering the DCA Aeon 2...- starfly

Best closed-back over-ear < $1K headphones?
Looking to maybe buy a new headphone, thinking of closed back. What is the best <$1K over-ear headphone out there currently? I like rumbly bass that extends deep, but don't like V-shaped headphones otherwise. So neutralish/harman curve with great bass. Oh and they need to be supremely...- starfly

Considering getting the DCA Aeon 2 Noire - what else to consider?
I've been thinking about buying the Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 Noire, given the good reviews and measurements and they look like they'd fit my large ears well and thus should be comfortable. They go for $900. What else to consider at that price point that is closed back, measures well and is...- starfly

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
Go to many festivals and loud concerts without hearing protection like I did when I was younger, and soon enough all hi-fi gear will sound excellent - starfly

So, anyone know of deeper earcups that would fit on these? That's really my only complaint with these, the earcups aren't deep enough and thus my ears rub up against the driver on the inside.- starfly

USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best
It seems that a lot of these Cirrus based dongles (such as the DC04 Pro) perform well, whereas the Hidizs is ESS based, where the implementation of the DAC can make a large difference in the performance of the end product. At least that was the case with older ESS dac chips. Of course all DACs...- starfly

Does anyone anywhere that has detailed measurements of the Fiio KA5, kind of like how ASR does it? I can see the SINAD, but also curious about jitter and IMD. Just want to know if it objectively provides clean output.- starfly

Just got the DC04 Pro. So apparently the app only works on Android (not any other platform), and you can't store any user settings on the device (e.g. DAC filter, power mode, etc.). That seems like an odd design oversight on Ibasso's part.- starfly

Just USB-C spec. It's now just a regular USB port, not a proprietary port. And a lot of things just work now. Really a great improvement, not just because you can consolidate cables across devices, but you also have better compatibility.- starfly

How well would the DC04Pro be able to drive Planars? And in terms of some of the firmware settings (e.g. the roll-off filters), is the only way to set those through an Android app? I'm on the iPhone, but do have an Android tablet. And once set, are the settings stored on device? Or does it...- starfly

Question, which one of these newer dongles are very power efficient? Currently using a Hidisz Sonata S8 on an iPhone 15 Pro and it really drains the phone's battery pretty quick. Want to find a new dongle that measures really well and is also very power efficient. I tried the Tempotec BHD Pro...- starfly

Good to hear they're more comfortable than the APM. I thought APM comfort was quite good, but didn't want to be pigeonholed into the Apple ecosystem with such an expensive headphone (yes, they'll work with any device, but obviously work best with other Apple products. I do use an iphone and...- starfly

Thanks for the review. Sounds like it could be interesting enough. Might have to give it a try at some point, and good to hear that the ANC is excellent as that would be the main reason for me to get one, for travel. For home use I have other wired headphones I'd prefer. And for the gym or...- starfly

My main complaint with the fit of this headphone is that I wish the pads were a bit deeper. My ears get a little bit itchy and scratchy after a while. Wonder if there are any aftermarket pads that will fit these.- starfly

I'll wait to read reviews before I order one, but am otherwise interested. My number one most important criteria for these kinds of headphones (wireless/ANC/over-ear) is comfort and ANC and Bose has always been really good in both areas. Sony is better on ANC, but not on comfort. The Airpods Max...- starfly
