Would it have to be some as expensive as those valvos. Hell $250 for tubes, that's more than half what I'd paid for the amp itself. Wouldn't just new tubes other than stock get rid of the noise?

Getting an external amp is probably something i'll do in the future to get better performance. For right now the Xonar Essence STX is about all i could afford and really all i need. The external amps i would thinking of such as the schiits Valhalla or asgard are a little bit out of my price...

Thanks for the responses, Im glad to know that the Essence STX can do virtual surround sound, which was one of the sticking points. I do think that the Phoebus is a rather inferior over priced card compared to the Essence STX, plus considering how you can't switch out and of the OP amps...
