I've seen this solution on Youtube, and it works. It most ceertainly voids the warranty. I've also hooked to Groove directly to my Moto X 2104 with an OTG cable - and it also works - it just sucks the battery 3x faster. You are correct! It is the E17K and E10K that share the same DAC chip. 

The M-100 fit me better than the XS, but I prefer the XS sound much more over the M-100. The M-100 is too V-shaped for my tastes. I'd like the sound of the XS and the fit of the M-100, but it's not available.

That's too bad. I've had similar problems, but I determined it was all due to the cable. I have so many devices that use the micro-USB that I go through cables like crazy. It sounds like yours wasn't due to a cable though.
