Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!
Isn't one of the problems that our ears are more sensitive to some frequencies than others, so (unlike speakers if I'm correct) a frequency response graph of headphones, with the drivers so close to your eardrums, doesn't look flat at all to sound flat? (Which introduces subjectivity already...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
Can somebody shoot a quick video that shows this issue? I'm having a hard time imagining it without ever having held an LCD-5... Thank you!- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
Very interesting and informative, thanks. How was the impedance of the LCD-4Z lowered while maintaining control, since I reason that traces in series had to be removed to reach that lower impedance? Fair enough, to each his own and I fully respect that. I'm just not sure whether you cater to...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
I totally agree; that would be turning the logic upside down. Except for LCD-4 vs LCD-4Z, where the latter, according to Audeze, is a redesign of the 4's 200 Ohm driver, to me (YMMV etc) with small trade-offs... For LCD-5 driveability was a clear design goal. That makes me wonder if compromises...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
I probably won't win any sympathy prices with what I'm gonna say next, and I'm well aware criticising is far too easy - I'm certainly not going to do a better job... but this review really left me wanting. Apart from being a bit repetitive (high price tag, and too much clamping force... which...- CoLdAsSauLt

I guess that's just a loaner, not a $4500 gift, so I fail to see what's so wrong about it. They could just as well buy a pair and send it back within the return window. Okay, they save on shipping/restocking fees... but then what? How does a free loaner create bias, what's their gain?- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
Hmm now I suspect actual (mean) power draw of the headphones is being confused with maximum power output of an amp. Which is completely dependant on the amp design and can be absolutely non linear (cfr. my Auralic Taurus Mk2)- CoLdAsSauLt

I sent you this by DM first, but it might be interesting to others, and maybe there are more Taurus owners lurking around here, so I'll ask again here: I saw you tried the LCD-5 with the May KTE + Taurus Mk2 and didn't like it at all. Can you please elaborate what you didn't like? In what...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
I guess that fully depends on how picky you are. When people pay top dollar while striving for utter perfection to their personal tastes, they can finetune using EQ. Everybody has a unique hearing... so if a headphone nails perfection for just a few of these demanding perfectionists, other...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
I hear you. I'm wondering however how the new LCD-4 earpads rank up in this matter. I read your posts that the earcup design is very key in the ("house") sound of all the previous LCD models. Apparently the new LCD2->4 earpads have been changed and completely redesigned (no more memory foam...- CoLdAsSauLt

You're welcome, thank YOU for your efforts. Kind of wondering what my LCD-4's power numbers look like. That's probably very true for many dynamic headphones, but aren't planar magnetics known for their ruler flat impedance curve? Or am I generalizing?- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview
I'm not too bothered by the weight of my LCD-4 either. My main listening spot is in my couch with a high back rest which also supports my head, so I can dream away ;-) Thing is that I bought that specific couch for more comfortable listening, and moreover, people keep bashing Audeze for their...- CoLdAsSauLt

Introducing the Audeze LCD-R!
I do not agree at all with this statement. My impression is that Audeze is working hard searching for the limits of their trusted planar technologies (hence the LCD-R), discovering, mastering and even innovating new technologies (the CRBN with carbon nanotubes), ... This is not a smartphone...- CoLdAsSauLt

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
I was curious of course if our existing v1-v3 Strati could be upgraded to the v4... so I asked Donald. To everyone wondering the same: alas, the new v4 Stratus uses a new chassis. Probably the Stellaris is a wiser upgrade path then. Of course, that doesn't make our current Strati less Godlike...- CoLdAsSauLt

Audeze LCD-4
That's strange to me as well. That's what set them apart from my HD800S (in the time the HD800) in my opinion. When I just upgraded from LCD-3 to LCD-4, I was honestly a bit underwhelmed. I lost a bit of warmth and (probably added) magic in the tonality that I was accustomed to. Some music...- CoLdAsSauLt

I thought about that too, but then there is Ohm's law, which dictates a certain fixed current corresponding with a given voltage (granted the amp can keep up supplying it). I have a hard time believing that those amps would not be able to deliver the needed current. On the other hand, if the...- CoLdAsSauLt

I'm really cracking my head on it... are you denying Ohm's law here? Or saying the Hugo is able to break it by delivering less current at a certain voltage with the 200 Ohm LCD4 load than desired/dictated by Ohm's law?- CoLdAsSauLt
