    SONY MDR-V6 DETACHABLE CABLE MOD

As you can see there is barely any clearance for even average size plugs.  For sure a switchcraft locking plug will not fit, since the locking nut is way too big.  It's probably a good idea to replace the internal wires between the jack and driver, since those are so...

    SONY MDR-V6 DETACHABLE CABLE MOD

So I just spent an hour or two working on a detachable mod for my pair of mdr-cd900st.  Basically what i did was:   1) Cut the wire inside cup with about half an inch extra cable pulled in to wire to a 1/8" jack I bought (adjust to how much cable length you think you need)   2) Use a reamer...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Well I finally got around to opening up the THX00.  I'm surprised I got number - 004 and I purchased at 9am, according to my email time stamp.   Well first impressions, the sound stage is much wider than my Sony 7520 headphones.  They kind of remind me of the Grado 325i open headphones I used...

Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x

Well I just got some Brainwavz HM5 Velour pads for my AD1000x and it sounds good.   These pads are much thicker than OEM pads thus it adds distance and seems be made less airy;  in the end it increases the soundstage and bass increases a bit too.  So far I'm enjoying it, but it take a bit of...

    Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

The Ad1000x and Ad2000x both go for a different sound than the three lower models. I have the Ad1000x and they do have a larger soundstage, while the r70x smaller more intimate one.

Emotiva Stealth DC-1 headphone amp vs Objective 2 w/ AC adapter

My current headphones are driven well with plenty of volume increases unused.  Regarding headroom, I'm not too sure about it, but I do know my hard to drive headphones have better bass on my DC-1 vs computer headphone jack.   Easy to drive - efficient and under 100 ohms Sony MDR-CD999...

Emotiva Stealth DC-1 headphone amp vs Objective 2 w/ AC adapter

The dc-1 is a combo DAC/preamp/2 separate output headphone amp. If you check the specs tab from the emotiva link and compare to the objective 2 @600ohms similar voltage output, the dc-1 outputs just 2 more MW at 90mw.

Emotiva Stealth DC-1 headphone amp vs Objective 2 w/ AC adapter

From a headphone amp power perspective is there any reason for me to get an Objective 2?  Based on the specs I found at these two links, they have similar power outputs.   https://emotiva.com/products/electronics/dacs/stealth-dc-1  ...

    Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

Well I've put in a good amount time listening during week and picked some more comparisons with my AD1000x.   The R70x separates instruments clearly, but has a much smaller sound stage.  Underneath the earpads surrounding the driver is some foam similar to the K7XX, attached with some...

    Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

Pretty much $349 everywhere unless you buy it used.  Luckily the 15% from amazon warehouse and the price didn't change much, so I got a decent deal on a like new pair for about $266 after tax.

    Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

Well I just got my pair of good r70x from the 15% off Amazon warehouse prime day deal last week.  The box was a little beat up, while the 1/4" adapter was loose rolling about the box.  It was definitely used or maybe just tested.  It looked basically like new to me.   So far my impressions are...

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

With my 3rd Gen Ipod Touch about 50% with volume limit set to max is a good average listening volume.  Past 70% it gets too loud for me.  Well the volume is good enough, but you can tell that the amp is too weak to provide enough power for great bass.

Somewhat new-ish head-fier looking for an upgrade

They are actually different with similar sound signature.  There is some noticeable boosts in frequency charts when comparing them.  Regarding being able to hear those differences depends on the individual.  Below are the frequency charts from innerfidelity for comparison.  ...

Need advice on finding a spacious well defined headset/pair of headphones for gaming

What headphones would be best for me?

Yes it possible to put a cable/device in between your sound card and headphones to adjust the volume.  Something like below could work. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826263023   From quick search on quality low cost bassy headphones, Takstar headphones look like a good...

Your headphone specs can be seen here, if the SE version has the same specs for the headphones as your standard version.  It shows the power, but it does not include the Voltage specs.

What headphones would be best for me?

Would you like strong/heavy bass for a movie style type of sound or one with light bass and great directional qualities to pick out people/noises based on location. Good headphones with built in mics just jack up the price, so it's more cost effective to get good headphones and a separate mic.

    Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions

Based on what I have read, the k7xx and hd650 sound similar. Since the k7xx seem to have more treble would they sound similar to the r70x headphones.

Audio Technica updates their open headphones "AD" Series: AD2000x, AD1000x, AD900x, AD700x and AD500x

I guess it's kind of early, but anyone compare the ad1000x and R70x. I'm hoping for something like an ad1000x with stronger bass.

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

The K7XX headphones yes, but I'm not sure they will still be marked as the first edition.  They just might go with a standard edition the next time.  At the moment there is no news of another drop happening yet.  Signup for Massdrop and the audiophile emails just be safe if don't hear when the...
