Iems v. Headphones Dollar for Dollar
I finally got around to comparing the M9s with my Focal Xlears. In some ways, it was two different listening experiences. The M9s felt more "intimate." The Xlears may have been a tad more dynamic, but also more recessed. The M9s did a better job with voice. On the whole, I would give the...- diver110

Checked out Sony M4 Earbuds Great Noise Cancelling
I recently bought the earbuds to check out and yesterday flew with them. The noise cancelling was truly excellent. I felt no need to use my headphones. But after about two hours the earbuds got uncomfortable to wear. I switched to my wired Sony iers and found them much more comfortable and...- diver110

Iems v. Headphones Dollar for Dollar
Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback. Last night I was listening to the Sony IER-M9’s, and I found that I truly enjoyed the music and indeed got involved in it. There is always better, but I am impressed that iers have reached this stage, at least at this admittedly fairly high price...- diver110

Iems v. Headphones Dollar for Dollar
Thanks. Very helpful response, though I do not currently intend to break the 1K barrier. That said, the new closed back Focals are tempting at 3x the price and maybe 20% (?) better sound. I have the Focal Elears, but they are one coast, and I am on another.- diver110

SONY IER-Z1R
This is one example of many endless threads on this site. Name another forum with threads this long. I find this approach unwieldy. I did a search for an issue of interest and got a thread that was years old and mostly outdated. If this system works for you, power to you.- diver110

SONY IER-Z1R
I do not recall being on another forum where threads were allowed to go on indefinitely. This thread has 769 posts over several years. Makes the threads in some ways useless. How many people care about gear someone bought years ago? At the same time, it gets in the way of finding info one...- diver110

Iems v. Headphones Dollar for Dollar
There must be threads on this, but the only ones I could find are older. Recently, I have been trying some admittedly pricy Sony IER-M9. I like them quite a bit, but I don't find wired iems all that portable. They are certainly clunky to walk around with in the house. They would be a little...- diver110

Astell & Kern SR15: A&norma Impressions & Reviews
Well, I got the new OTG cable, tried it both ways with the Hugo 2, still did not work. (Unlike the cable that came with the Hugo 2, the male plug went all the way in.) The Hugo 2 works fine with other sources, so I assume it is not the problem, though I plan to check in with Chord just in...- diver110

It is possible that I did not try reversing it, though at that point I still had old firmware on the AK, so perhaps it still would not have worked. I will watch for that when I get the new cable. What does OTG stand for?- diver110

For the record, I certainly appreciate the feedback. The reason I am skeptical is that I have had two sets of cables in play, and it still did not work. One was, I believe, an OTG cable that came with the Hugo. Interestingly, the male plug would not fully go into the female. The people at...- diver110

Thanks for your help, but still does not work. I ordered a micro USB OTG cable per rbslcom to see if that makes it work.- diver110

Oh. While it updated when I initially set it up (or at least said it did), in fact it is running 1.10. How do I update it?- diver110

Well. the plot has thickened a bit. I have tried to get this to work any number of times. I even took it into the dealer for the Hugo, who also is a dealer for AK (Grammaphone), and the dealer could not get it to work. The External USB icon (which I called a button in my post) did not come...- diver110

I have tried to connect the SR 15 to my Chord Hugo 2. I have used different connecting cables, but cannot get the SR 15 to play through the Hugo. I have repeatedly try to press the "External Dac" button, but it does not react. Does that mean that my SR 15 is defective? I also sent this...- diver110

While I like the SR 15 sonically, I have two complaints: As others have noted, the screen savers are jokes. Don’t stick at all. Also, I cannot get the fast-forward to work. Have others had ths problem?- diver110

Adapter question: I have a Chord Hugo 2. To connect the SR 15, I need to go mini usb out on the SR 15 to mini usb in on the Hugo 2, both male mini sub ports. Does anyone know where I can find an adapter that will connect the two. So far, I am having a hard time finding an adapter on Amazon...- diver110

Planars and DAPs definitely don’t go together. I just got my SR and have been listening with my travel headphones, Sony WH-1000XM3. So far, very nice sound. You can connect the SR 15 to an external DAC. People love the Chord Mojo, which is not crazy expensive and very portable.- diver110

Guten Tag. Did you ever compare the sound of the iPhone with the AK. I think the sound of the iPhone sucks, but hey, one man's opinion. I even plugged my iPhone into my Chord Hugo and compared it with the sound from my HP laptop. Laptop won hands down. Not sure why. Laptop/Hugo obviously...- diver110

Chord Hugo v. Mytek Brooklyn
I realize the Mytek does not count as portable, though it is small enough to be fairly easily transportable. Some would say this is not apples to apples. Be that as it may, in my comparison, the Hugo won by a nose using Focal Elear headphones. It is hard to quantify the difference, but I would...- diver110

Importance of Solid State Hard Drives
Well, the consensus seems to be that the salesman was wrong. I am not the only one to hear differences in sources, admittedly with quality DACs ( Mytek Brooklyn). My HP is dramatically better than the Iphone through the Mytek. What accounts for the difference?- diver110
