Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread

See, that's the thing...my guess is if someone who's running the Pontus into the Mjolnir is complaining about sibilance, it's either the music or the headphone that is causing it to be an audible problem. I know what I'd choose to swap out in this case. I suppose swapping out the amp for...

I feel like if you’re experiencing sibilance at this level, it’s not your amp that’s causing it. I mean, just EQ it out?

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Never said that anyone “has a corner”. Just that here in the states it’s a cultural signifier to assert one’s privilege. Others elsewhere assert their privilege for the same or different reasons.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Not really. Rude, inconsiderate behavior in public has only gotten worse since the pandemic. And some folks in the US seem to take cultural pride in being jerks or just not caring/thinking about others.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

Wearing open back headphones on a crowded plane is really inconsiderate. I would’ve been really annoyed, especially if I didn’t have closed back, noise cancelling headphones. Which I have partially because others are so, well…

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

I could see ZMF making a great leather aftermarket pad for the 620s but otherwise I’d stick to stock replacements.

    Meze Audio 109 Pro

The 105 looks interesting. I eventually sold my 109s because I found them to be too bright and a bit too withdrawn in the mids for my taste. If this can at least get the treble balance right, I’ll consider getting a pair.

LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

Can I have both the RCA and XLR outs active at the same time with this DAC into 2 different amps?

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Ah how interesting! I stand corrected. Now I need to hear this thing for myself. I was not impressed with the 560 but love the S2, so I’m trying to approach this new model with an appropriate amount of caution.

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

The S2’s FR graph doesn’t really do a good job of communicating the bass response. So my guess is the 620S’ bass is probably stronger than the S2, but not by as much as the graph would suggest.

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Thanks for posting this link. I like that they call out a lot of things you might not get from some reviewers but would impact different types of customers. Particularly it seems to be a fairly efficient and sensitive headphone for 150 ohms, which is great to see.

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

It's probably this post: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/zmf-caldera-closed.972056/post-18113193 I am all about the new closed back renaissance! So many advances in audio technology over the past few decades. Finally companies are showing closed backs more attention

You can buy 3rd party balanced cables for the 560S right now and they should all work with the 620S.

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

I’m just glad the headphone is wired for balanced. Single entry connectors that use TRRS 2.5 or 3.5mm jacks are not overly niche. I do wonder about the move to 150 ohm. It’s not like it’s that much more efficient than the 300 ohm cans and is there a benefit? I’m sure there is sometimes depending...

    Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

With those specs, I’m curious about how they scale down in terms of power for portability, and how they scale up in terms of amplification quality. Beyond that, I’m just eager to read or hear other folks’ listening impressions….

Schiit Mjolnir 3 - Impressions Thread

If there’s any flaw to the Mj3, i think there’s maybe a bit of grain to the treble. I noticed it with the Empyrean before I sold it. Though my reaction to the grain was more about the Empy’s peaky upper treble. With more subdued treble, I find it’s easier to spot with feedback on, which is why I...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

This is veering off topic but I don’t think the chassis tells the whole story. For one thing, the 560S driver is 120 ohm. The 620S driver is 150 ohm like the 58X and 660S1. Also, I think Sennheiser has been consistent in how they talk about their recent releases. In the case of the 660S2, the...

New Sennheiser HD 620S Closed Back

I dunno. I think of a closed back as having more of a travel or outdoor use-case, so lower power requirements are preferable. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if this thing was over 100dB efficient. But also, 150 ohms is plenty high for even an OTL, anyways.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

I don’t expect the 620S to outperform the S2 but if it can pull out more refinement from the driver than, say, the 58X (but with moar sub-bass), I’ll be stoked. And the S2 will have a really great brother in my collection.

New Sennheiser HD 620S Closed Back

I hope the 150 ohms doesn't mean it's a big step back in terms of technicalities or scalability. I like that the 620S is easier to drive than the 660S2, but the scalability of this series is still a big draw. I hope they found a sweet spot in terms of performance and compatibility.

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

The 560S can be run balanced, so my guess is the 620S will be too. We'll see once they formally announce the thing. Fwiw, I'm ok with single-entry cables as long as they're not completely proprietary or unreliable. The 560S uses a common locking 2.5mm wire. Luckily, I have a balanced cable that...
