It sounds like you've had a very bad experience. DAP makers in general have a bad record of support. Cayin is better than most though. I haven't been happy with Echobox or Shanling. I would say to try to contact @Andykong as he is very helpful and wants to do what is right.

Audio out over USB would work for your set-up. From the product description on the campaign, they seem to indicate a dedicated line out utilizing the headphone jack. That would seem to imply bypassing the headphone amp.

It is possibe, but the hardware has to be configured properly to do so. If the hardware is there, I can't imagine why it wouldn't already be working. If the hardware layout isn't in place, a firmware update isn't going to give you a true line out. I haven't seen a block diagram of the unit...
