Hi Vandammmmma. The short version is that getting high gain through the Walkman One, will be one way of adjusting it. Getting it from the player fw. is another way! But if you turn on both, there will be some sort of cancellation! So it's one or the other! The more technical explanation will be...

When MQA was released, I downloaded a lot of albums, because the idea of having the mastertape sound and all of it in a smaller file.! Whats not to like? I can't remember precisely , but I think the MQA works with something around 18bit. But......if you listen really close & carefully and pay...

The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

To my ears, J is king when it comes to midrange! But E might do the trick?

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

This! At one time I suggested a “travelers edition” or some sort of “outdoor mode” to turn on, when needed! I have been back and forward, between 3.02 & Walkman One a dozen times and have become more & more fond of the Walkman One! But I genuinely believe that Sony made the stock firmware a bit...

Get well soon, my Audio-friend! :)

Please make sure that you haven’t turned gain on in the Walkman One AND the device’s own gain on. that will clash and reduce the level if so. I find the Walkman One great also, but the bass department is a little too audiophile for my taste (I’m not a bass head), so I’m still on 3.02.

The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

Since every good suggestion have been used, could it be that the unit itself have a faulty SD card connection? Just my 2 cent + it's pretty annoying when things that should work, doesn't! I have slimmed down my library on the Walkman to an amount that can fit the internal memory. And that makes...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

The "Penny" finally dropped on me! I'm using my modded 1Z outdoor (on my way to work) and I kept on finding the Walkman One too light for that. Well. I regard all members of this forum to be highly skilled audio/music fans and I just couldn't make any sense of what I read vs. of what I heard...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

I'm interested in hearing/reading any observations on the region codes J1, J2. I can "hear" that J3 have more air to it (and a stronger bass), than J, but it gets kind of boring after a while. Any kind of description will be positively received!

How ironic! I came onboard “The Sony Train” around late august (2016) in this tread, https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-nw-wm1z-wm1a.815841/page-10, and leaned how to remove the volume cap on my 1A Walkman. It was suggested that E was an alright reg. and that it didn’t have the volume cap. So...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

I'm currently on stock 3.02, because after a week on 3.01, it ended up as being just a bit too dark! I've got 60+ ears/hearing and love my midrange with a dynamic punch in the bass. That's all good and fine in 3.02. What the Walkman One has given me, is a reestablished understanding of the sound...

    Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

That’s very interesting! I use my modded 1z (in a 1A) shell, mainly to and from work, biking! I find the Walkman One a bit to the thin side, tuning wise. For my purpose you need the body from the official 3.02. I have tried any tuning combination possible, to no success. I always end up with the...

That is very strong claim of an already totally impressive fw. :) I do know that better can go in many directions, but I too, are also really exited about this! Thank for sharing!

It’s quite simple. Is the state/condition that your unit will work in, when booted up! Ex. V1 if chosen, will be the one that your unit will work in, when booted up!

After downloading the fw. it's on wm1z tuning. You've changed it to Bright. Just restart and install the Bright fw and you're set! Take your time, read the instructions and you'll be fine! :)

I have a 1TB card too and if it's a re-scan or installation, it takes aprox. the time you mentioned. Once that's done, it only takes about 30 seconds to reload. That's with hi-res FLAC files and a handful CD resolution albums (the rare & loved ones)! Bonus: The WM1Z-J3-PlusV2 setting is also the...

Ups! Lookout57 is also right here, but I was ment to quote nc8000! This. All of a sudden, it all sound so goooood! Highly recommended. I truly suspect my listningsskills have improved and maybe I have stopped listning! Big difference there! I have turned the higher gain option on for my outdoor...

This. All of a sudden, it all sound so goooood! Highly recommended. I truly suspect my listningsskills have improved and maybe I have stopped listning! Big difference there! I have turned the higher gain option on for my outdoor use (and it work's for me)! Thank you Mr.Walkman :)

I've been very happy with your suggestion and enjoying it a lot! Its just that I had to "leave" the bass endorsement I was developing, because this modded 1Z is very good at going deep. So its very tempting to follow that route. Also I've just bought the new Ares S cable from Effect Audio and...
