Chord Announces Poly, Hugo 2 and Blu MkII @ CES 2017
I don't get the hard edge reactions either. This isn't some off-the-map shire we're living in with its own cottage industry economy and I doubt Chord would stack up at all as a predatory marketer in the business world they are succeeding in. I'm not all over the forums and certainly not up on...- McClelland

A change for Currawong
How else would I have learned about the Currawong and heard its song? I reckon there must be at least 12 of you, given the level of your activity on the site, the videos and the obvious fact of your own life outside Head-fi. And I have no idea about the world of PMs you've sustained. Your...- McClelland

My haphazard journey into turning a Sennheiser HD 800 into a HD 800S with the SuperDupont mod and Paint
I enjoyed the MJ2 with Amperex PG Orange label tubes and the Gumby with both the LCD-X and the HD800. I thought those two HPs gave me two very different listening experiences, both audible and physically as if I were listening in two very different spaces. At least for me the MJ2/Gumby combo...- McClelland

My haphazard journey into turning a Sennheiser HD 800 into a HD 800S with the SuperDupont mod and Paint
The tubes made a significant difference for me with the HD800 and I am looking for a Ragnarok-like tube amp that could drive the HD800 and the KEF LS50 speakers I'm enjoying.- McClelland

Interesting, Thanks for your thoughts. Had similar experience with the MJ2 as the large amp and will probably be tinkering with the mods.- McClelland

My haphazard journey into turning a Sennheiser HD 800 into a HD 800S with the SuperDupont mod and Paint
@sling5s was looking at your profile and noticed that most recent list suggested you might be listening to HD800 with the Mojo as your DAC and if that is the case I was interested in how you got to that place given other source gear you have had. I've recently sold an MJ2/Amperex PG Orange...- McClelland

I mean this as a sincere response. I would be more concerned about damaging the receivers in your ears. Sharp spikes of of high dB are one of the things that degrade hearing over time and precipitate tinnitus. Etymotics makes a line of audio/musician earplugs that reduce the max dB that gets...- McClelland

I agree. Most of my time has been spent listening with the MJ2 with tubes, but I've not thought that was essential in any way.- McClelland

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)
Given it all ends up with personal preference, and that many of us have limited auditory memory for our subjective preferences arising from the A_B comparisons we do, I have greatly enjoyed the MJ2/Gumby combo with Amperex tubes whether driving HD800, Audeze LCD-X, or Focal Elear. IMO...- McClelland

Been listening a lot with used 4pin XLR HD800 cans with MJ2/Gumby combo with balanced connectors and Amperex PQ orange label USA tubes and have not been bothered by 6K issues although I may still try some mods just to experiment. I think the tubes have a lot to do with the warmth I'm hearing...- McClelland

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Haven't moved beyond this point in the thread, but I'm assuming the Mjolnir 2 with tubes has been recommended to your list. I'm presently listening to unmodded HD800 with an old cardas balanced cable and Amperex tubes and think it's delightful, but it maybe a case of "ignorance is bliss" as...- McClelland

[ Active Speakers ] ---> Best Under ~$250?
I'm very interested in your take on the HS7's compared to the Adams A7X, as I've been thinking the Adams might be my next step for a number of reason including impressions I've read of a larger sound stage with near-field listening, but it's a big jump in price. I don't' have a place to compare...- McClelland

[ Active Speakers ] ---> Best Under ~$250?
If you are still comparing: I took the near-field monitor route and am enjoying the JBL LSR305. Got a pair for $270, but see they are on Amazon now for around $300. For some reason, I never thought I would be interested in low end JBL products, but I've very satisfied with them after deciding...- McClelland

RHA MA-750i Review
That's the only problem I've experienced as I've used them more. Thought the sturdy, non stick cable would be a benefit, but it is a bit too long and cumbersome. Small problem but it maybe a consideration for some.- McClelland

RHA MA-750i Review
Recently bought the MA750i after coming across it on the forums when considering the Shure SE215's and I'm not looking further for a pair of daily-use portable HPs with remote and mic. The sound is very pleasing to my ear and balanced across the range I can hear. The design and build are...- McClelland

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
I had been spending time comparing the HD800 and the LCD-X through my Cumby/MJ2 combo, but lately have been just listening with one or the other and enjoying what they each bring to the music. Just listened to a couple of these cello suites with the LCD-X and found they were gorgeous and rich...- McClelland

Too bad this is an old thread. I'm looking for same thing: best SQ in a non-isolating in-ear/earbud headphone with phone/volume functions.
