Fiio E17K Battery
Sorry for dredging up such an old thread, but I thought I'd add some other info for people like me looking for details. I'm currently replacing the battery in my E17K (running in an FK5111 "K5" dock). I opened up the E17K - two P2 pentalobe screws at the bottom to remove the back panel (get an...- Christopher

Fiio E7 with E09K - channel imbalance and high pitched whine on output?
Unfortunately I gave up and returned the dock. There must just be a chipset or design incompatibility. I bought the Alpen and will get the new dock for that when it's released. I wonder if FiiO has any comment?- Christopher

FiiO K5 || FiiO's docking desktop amp
Like others, I've been encouraged to watch the development of this amp. I hope I can pair one with my Alpen 2 E17K very soon. :D- Christopher

Anyone tried this $20 Lunashops HD650 cable?
Heh, Sennheiser still sell OEM aluminium steel cables for their HD25s... I already break the rule of portables - my HD25 cable is a Neutrik replacement intended for studio use, so it's about six feet long. You should see the ridiculous amount of cable I carry round! The material it's... -
Fiio E7 with E09K - channel imbalance and high pitched whine on output?
I just received an E09K to pair with my (first gen) E7. I bought it given FiiO's confirmation that the post-September 2012 version of the E09K was fully compatible with it. Unfortunately when I hooked it up to my PC and listened through the front output, this is what I heard: ...- Christopher

Why the Beats Hate?
A question - as I've not read any of the myriad of reviews - but do these reviewers approach the latest Studio (and Solo!) 2.0 from the perspective of "these are good for Beats" or "these are good for the price point"? I have no preconceptions about these cans and I'm willing to accept and...- Christopher

Why the Beats Hate?
I consider the HD25 to be first and foremost a critical listening can; they're used by DJs for their excellent engineering and accurate sound but they were used by sound recordists and engineers long before that (still are, and I speak as someone who's both). I've not heard the new Solo2 but...- Christopher

Dr. Chesky's Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc - Head-Fi TV
Well, if the music was tracked, mixed and mastered at 24 bit, buying the 24 bit will make a difference because the 16 bit downsamples will inevitably be dithered. If your kit can bitstream the 24 bit audio, you'll get THE absolute original audio. If your DAC (like my Fiio) can only do 16 bit...- Christopher

Why the Beats Hate?
And Beats keeps peddling the same low quality drivers and poor design... I roadtested every Beats model recently and A/Bed with my Sennheiser cans (CX300s and HD25-1 IIs) using my H340 as a source. No contest. Yamaha make some cans which sound tons better than their Beats lookalikes...- Christopher

Anyone tried this $20 Lunashops HD650 cable?
Whilst browsing for bargain basement USB cables I saw this which caught my eye: http://www.lunashops.co.uk/goods-3518.html -- "3.5mm 5N OFC Soft Cable"... Whilst I don't fully subscribe to the OFC myth, I do tend to copper conductors over alu. This cable's got some visual appeal, with its...- Christopher

FiiO E7 - constant hiss/fuzzy noise from one channel; fixable without returning for repair?
Noticed recently that my FiiO E7 is making some noise from the left channel (through both outputs). Tried multiple headphones, done all the usual tests. The sound is produced irrespective of whether it's in standalone or DAC mode, and fades in and out as you power the unit on and off. ...- Christopher

hd25-1 impressions thread
Quote: My cans were secondhand so I guess the previous user put too much strain on the clip inside. If I can figure out a small tool to hook round and push it back out a little I could probably fix it. Only needs a tiny amount more thickness. In the meantime put some handy black...- Christopher

hd25-1 impressions thread
Quote: Very useful photo and tip, thanks -- and also gives me hope that solving the "left earcup loose on headband" problem is possible too? I'm temporarily resorting to tape inside the earcup bracket to stop the left earcup sliding so much (no traction against the headband). What's the...- Christopher

Conclusively working out which model of the HD25-1 I have
An update with more info about the entire range of HD25s, liberally quoted from a post by John Willett on DVForums: This of course doesn't answer the matter of the differing side labels. I may try and contact John or Sennheiser UK by email but if there's anyone on here who's...- Christopher

Conclusively working out which model of the HD25-1 I have
I bought a second hand pair of HD25s and the left earpiece label looks exactly like the one in this picture: Mine seem to be the HD25-1 Mark 1s; they have the right-angled cable with the flat connector pins going into the (delightful leatherette) earcups. The split headbands...- Christopher

[E7] Any way to increase the speed of volume change?
Just received my E7 today in the post, been breaking it in gently and on the whole very pleased thus far, came with a ton of accessories! However the rate at which the volume increments / decrements is PAINFULLY slow; whereas a logarithmic speed increase would be very useful (and logical for...- Christopher

Channel Imbalance
I have a similar problem with my 650s - I drive them directly from various portable or fixed sources (no separate headphone amp or anything like that, I'm far too poor to afford fancy things.) I've noticed for a while now my cans have begun to exhibit an imbalance - the R channel appears to be...- Christopher

Resuscitating a RioVolt SP-250?
After my SP-250 died I became an ardent iRiver fan; first the iHP-140 then an H340 which still sees regular service today. (Both with Rockbox of course). My cheapo Panasonic CD walkman never sees daylight these days - I was so amazed that the Rio still powered up after years of non-use I thought...- Christopher

Resuscitating a RioVolt SP-250?
I dug out my old RioVolt SP-250 - a cracking little unit when I got it, could read Audio CDs with CD-TEXT, CD-Rs and CD-RWs with MP3s & WMAs on and also played said MP3s gaplessly :-D plus an integrated FM radio. However I think it had one too many knocks for its own good during daily...- Christopher

I could get a Graham Slee Voyager amp for £120. Should I go for it?
Pretty much what the title says... Apparently it's the amp and power supply in good condition, being sold by someone at my uni. Should I make him an offer? I have some HD650s which crave amplification, and I have an H340 (with Rockbox on) for day to day listening, along with my laptop and...- Christopher
