DC Area Meet - December 15th, 2019
I'll be there in the morning. I'll have a pair of ZMF Auteurs and a pair of DIY electrostatic headphones. I'll have a modi 2 uber, a vali mini, and maybe a NAD 3225 with a step-up transformer box as amps. I have a DIY soekris R2R DAC, but it only has an optical input, so I'm not sure what I'll...- 100VoltTube

DC Area Head-Fi Meet Planning (ongoing)
I would not be able to make it on 5/18, but I seem to be in a small minority on that. 5/11 does work for me, if that's an option that works for more people.- 100VoltTube

My DIY electrostatic headphones
I finally finished my headphones today. I'm listening to them now. They sound pretty great, but have very little bass. I'm assuming that the tension is just too high. Would heating up the diaphragms reduce the tension? Also, the dust covers crinkle whenever I move my head. They're 3um mylar the...- 100VoltTube

Advice for an amp for my Amiron Home Headphones
The Bottlehead Crack is always a great option for high impedance headphones. It's often talked about as a good option as a starter kit because it's not very hard to build, and has great instructions, but it's still a great amp. The Jonokuchi is another design to look at. It's not a kit; you...- 100VoltTube

beyer t70 & t70p NEW!
No, but I think it was in some way related to my amp or dac. Since then, the right driver of a pair of modded DT880s and 1more triple drivers have died in similar ways, and they were using different amps, but the same DAC. I sent in the DAC (a modi MB) to schiit, and they said it works fine, so...- 100VoltTube

When choosing sockets for the tubes, can you just use any IC socket or do you need to choose one with extra deep sockets for the tube leads?- 100VoltTube

Audeze Mobius review / impressions
Definately not clipping. I'm at a volume of 6 on USB, which reminds me that I'm in the front port on a PC, which may not be ideal in terms of noise. Yeah, switching ports fixed it, and noise went down. Thanks! I wonder if it's worthwhile to invest in a proper USB decrappifier?- 100VoltTube

Audeze Mobius review / impressions
My mobius just came, and I'm listening to it now. It sounds great, but there's popping sounds (kind of like popcorn) while music is playing. will this go away after a while or is it a serious problem? I got 2 pairs, one for me, and one for a friend. I'm not sure if his have the same problem...- 100VoltTube

My DIY electrostatic headphones
HI, When you spray-paint the stators, do you paint the entire thing, or do you use a spacer to cover the outside part? Also, what's the order of applying the coating to the diaphragm and gluing it to the spacer? Which side of the diaphragm gets coated? or does it matter? Sorry if any of these...- 100VoltTube

Mouser lists the 2SA1312-BL as out of stock and has a lead time of a couple months. Where did all of you get your 2SA1312-BLs from? Digikey doesn't stock them either.- 100VoltTube

DC Area Meet - August 18th, 2018
I'll try to make it. If I do, I'll have Modi MB -> Magni 2 u HD480II Audeze mobius (if they show up before then) If anyone wants to hear a pair of 1more triple driver IEMs, I can bring those. I'm hopeful (but not too optimistic) that my DIY electrostatic headphones will be done by then. If...- 100VoltTube

How to make headphone drivers?
the OP hasn't been online here for almost a year, so he/she might not be making any progress, but IDK about other people. To my knowledge, while it's easy to make a working dynamic driver (this can be done with some magnet wire, a plastic cupcake holder thing, and some tape), it's probably...- 100VoltTube

beyer t70 & t70p NEW!
The right driver of my T70s died today. It is far quieter than the left. The dc resistance of the left is 230 ish ohms and the dc resistance of the right is about 10 kilohms. I'm not quite sure what happened to cause this. I found the sheepskin leather brainwavz pads (110mm) to be the best of...- 100VoltTube

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)
I got to compare those 2 during a meet over the summer. From memory, the LCD-2 is more intimate and punchy, with a darker treble than the Amiron, both driven from a magni 2 uber fed from a computer dac. A nicer setup may change those impressions. I didn't find the Amiron's treble problematic...- 100VoltTube

KOSS ESP-950 Thread
Alcantara is a synthetic microfiber material. No endangered species here. I'm not an acoustics expert by any means, but I'm pretty sure that pads do make a difference. Tyll has done measurements. My DIY electrostatic headphones
But that takes all the fun out of it :triportsad: And all of the "fun" when you do something dumb with the CNC machine. Seriously, though, those are very well-made stators. I'm curious about the cause of the difference in efficiency, and the difference in capacitance.- 100VoltTube

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone
What is the output impedance of your amp? I'm not sure whether the new tesla cans have the same oddity, but the 1st gen teslas all have massive impedance spikes in the bass ( > 600 ohm) so the amp's output impedance makes a huge difference in the bass quantity.- 100VoltTube
