If you do get a tube amp, make sure it’s not an OTL. Clear doesn’t play well with high output impedances

What headphones were you used to listen to before? And what dac and amp do you use?

The bass quantity on the Clear doesn’t really have that much to do with power, as they’re pretty easy to drive. You can put them on an amp with a high output impedance (like I suspect the integrated Denon amp mentioned above has) and that will boost the midbass a lot. I do not recommend it...

He stated in his original comment that he had purchased a Clear Professional. Now, I own the regular Clear and still decided to buy an aftermarket cable for it. Even though the Clear cables are a huge step up from the Elear/Utopia cable, it’s still a bit too thick and stiff for my liking...

    1) I use a Forza audioworks cable that I’m quite happy with. Doesn’t have the same «click» as the stock cable has (because of the ridge on the stock connector), but plugs in just as securely as a regular 3.5mm connector. Only thing that bothers me is that the connectors are a bit longer than the...

Soundstage definitely on the smaller side for an open-back, but imaging and separation, the proportions of the soundstage is all truly excellent. Especially in depth/layering I feel like the Clear is exceptional. For soundstage size and spaciousness, the Clear can’t compare to my HEX v2, but the...

They’re so tonally balanced, they’ll handle anything tbh. If it’s a good production, it’ll sound good. That said, stuff with tight and powerful dynamics, and that is not reliant on huge soundstage, is probably the best.

It's not just about power, but the quality (THD+N etc..). I do think you'll hear an improvement. The Clear is pretty sensitive/low impedance and yeah doesn't need a lot of power, but is revealing enough to show the quality of upstream components. Yet, it's relatively forgiving in terms of...

    Focal Clear headphones

The Focals actually have pretty different sound signatures in terms of frequency response (Elear is a bit dark with very absent 3-5k region, Clear is pretty downright neutral harman-style, Utopia is a bit lean/bright with more aggressive upper treble), there's much more than driver material that...

Schiit Eitr impression and USB-SPDIF converters discussion

My Eitr has been working flawlessly since I bought it (not long after release). I often unplug and connect to different sources (macbook, pc, iphone) and turn on/off devices with the Eitr connected, never had an issue. Connects instantly. The Eitr’s power is connected to a Monster power surge...

From measurements (and to my ears), the Clear’s bass is pretty much on neutral harman-style. You probably prefer/are used to a bit more bass than that. Personally I use the HEX v2 when I want something with just a bit more bass. The Clear does respond quite well to eq (at least when driven...

anything with a high output impedance will screw with the FR, basically will boost midbass

    Focal Clear headphones

Most aftermarket cable makers can make a cable for the Clears, as they use simple 3.5mm mono plugs. Personally I use a hybrid copper/silver cable from Forza Audioworks which I like a lot, very good looking, flexible lightwheight etc. There are many other good cable makers aswell such as effect...

Woo audio stands come both as a double and as a single. Maybe a double for the two Focals, and then a single for the HD800?

Schiit Loki may be what you want :) As easy as possible RCA in RCA out, 4 band eq with knobs. Looks good aswell

I don’t mind EQ’ing, actually when I think about it the Clear is my first daily driver that I prefer without any eq (at least any that I’ve found yet). I agree that it can be a hassle if you need to change eq for every track, that’s kinda silly, but I imagine throwing on a couple dB of bass...

Utopia sounds a bit bright for my taste, so I think I would like to attenuate the treble a bit with a Loki aswell. Clear is just so spot on to my ears, but a bit of eq could be nice for specific tracks

    Focal Clear headphones

Ah, alright. I did try it, but didn't enjoy it more than the stock sound tbh. Thanks anyway! I have played around a bit more with eq, and tried sonarworks and playing around with the settings there, but I've arrived at the (at least temporary) conclusion that I prefer the stock sound. Maybe I...

Elear was over-hyped in the beginning, just like most other hyped headphones. I don't feel like the Clear got the same level of over-hype as the Elear did, maybe because it was still so similar to the Elear (in terms of design and price, and to an extent in sound aswell). Anyway, I don't think...

Do you have any eq profiles to share with us? I'm always interested in simple ways to sound improvement. I did try Sonarworks calibration with my Clears recently, but i wasn't the upgrade I hoped it would be (like it was with my Elear).

It's likely just yours and other people's perceptions that differ, at least until you try a regular pair of Clears too and can tell a difference. Personally I don't think the Clear misses subbass, yeah a really good closed-back or an Audeze will reach a little deeper but I can't think of any...

    Focal Clear headphones

I’m also interested in knowing how the two compare. As I’ve posted here I’m looking for a complementary headphone to my Clear, and so far leaning towards the HEX v2. But wondering if the Auteur could be a good alternative aswell?
  24. makne

    Focal Clear headphones

you think so? I can’t imagine how it could be any smaller without putting stress on the headphones. Now something like the Audeze cases are huge (and a bit unnecessarily so) but the Clear’s case is barely bigger than the headphones themselves

It’s likely to increase the clamp a bit if you keep it like that over time. I doubt it’ll actually damage the headphones, but if you store it like that a lot, idk..
