    The discovery thread!

Piezo/dynamic combo units are also in the Spring 1 and A6 Mini. If they can nail the tuning (which the Spring 1 does not do without modding/EQ) that's a very interesting proposition.

    Audio shop in Bay Area?

Audiovision in SF has a decent selection of headphones and they carry Chord and iFi products as well. I just wish they carried IEMs other than the iSine.

    Best IEM tips?

I picked up some Flare foam tips to try with the EE Bravado, which for me works best with thin foams. The Flares seems nice, but unfortunately, I seem to fall between sizes with them, at least on this IEM. The small does not provide a solid seal in one ear, and the medium is a bit too large to...

    V-Shaped IEM 400 $

If you don't mind the fixed cable, Periodic Carbon is a quite nice v-shaped IEM. If they're still running the 40% code you can pick up a blemished one for quite cheap.

    Radsone EarStudio ES100

They're way overly cautious in how they phrase that. When switching headphones etc. just always start with lowest volume and increase to a safe listening level -- which is what you should do with any amp/DAP/etc. You don't need to worry about the impedance thing; they're generalizing. Just try...

Blon in ear monitors impressions thread

You don't even need a separate cable, you can just try the left side of the cable with the right earpiece. If you get sound, then the right side of your cable is the problem. This can happen with any set of IEMs. The cable on my Empire Ears Bravado (which is an Effect Audio Ares II that would...

Answered: When viewing subscribed threads, no longer a way to filter out "read" threads?

Ah, the option to save default does help. One that is unfortunate though is that you can't leave that tab open and just refresh it. The four-digit character that is suffixed to the URL means that if you reload the page, it doesn't pick up new content. You would have to either delete that and...

Ah, thanks. That seems kind of...roundabout, though.

Answered: When viewing subscribed threads, no longer a way to filter out "read" threads?

You could previously view only your subscribed threads that had unread messages in them. Now I can only find the combined view. The threads with updates posts are in bold, but I would much prefer to have a filtered view of just new stuff.

    Detailed, neutral, isolating IEMs $50-$150

You can assuredly do better than the SE425. If you're interested in Etymotic but the ER3 is too pricey, the ER2XR has gotten great reviews.

New: EarStudio HUD100 Hi-Fi USB DAC

Also, no indication of onboard EQ for this unit, right? Personally that's a much bigger selling point than the balanced output. The ES100's EQ implementation and app support are what set it apart from competitors.

New: EarStudio HUD100 Hi-Fi USB DAC

I have no qualms about single-ended amps, but I think it's a weird choice for Radsone because they've got a lot of customers who switched over to 2.5mm cables because of the ES100. Of course it's easy to use an adapter, but it still seems like an odd choice for the brand.

Blon in ear monitors impressions thread

There's a whole family of off-silver colors with confusing product names. My personal anti-favorite is when they call something "titanium" referring to its color, and it's a different metal. (And usually doesn't look particularly like titanium, either.)

    Best soundstage?

The HD800/800s soundstage is indeed very good, and it is a bit unlike most headphones in how it achieves it. The drivers are moved well away from your ears and as far forward as practical, to provide a more frontal presentation. The result is certainly very good, although probably better for...

    TRN impressions thread

You can't always find an IEM that has the best tuning for you, the technical performance you want, and the price you can afford/wish to pay. If you have to pick two, then let the tuning go if you can fix it with EQ. Easier to adjust tuning than to alter technical characteristics or psychically...

iBasso IT01 a fun IEM. Single multilayered graphene driver. !! 99 USD !!

I recently went through a lot of this while trying to sort out my very-driver-flex-prone EE Bravado. I ended up having to settle on the foam tips solution. #5 soooort of worked, but also threw off the sound more than the foam tips did. What I should try next is taking those vented tips and...

    BQEYZ in-ear monitors Impressions Thread

I haven't heard the Tape, but my understanding is that it's much more v-shaped. There have been a couple brief comparisons from folks who've heard both, but I don't know if I've seen a detailed one.

Appreciation thread for the Ray Samuels - SR-71A: I just spend the night listening to the SR-71A with a cold beer and nothing to distract me.

Yeah, I use a similar setup with a Radsone ES100 plus the SR-71A so I don't have to be cabled to a phone/computer. I don't usually use my HD800 this way, but I've tested the setup, and the SR-71A had plenty of power for it. The only caveat is, if you prefer (as many do) to use a tube amp with...

BEST VALUE ''around 100-300$'' CHIFI & NEWCOMERS IEM with REFERENCE List (no BIG brands here)

"Substantially better" is a tricky concept to apply because as @baskingshark said, diminishing returns kick in hard the higher you go in price point. I think the best thing is to figure out if there's any particular area where you want to see an improvement over the Spring 1, and then look for...

CHIFI LOVE Thread-A never ending IEM-Heaphones-DAP-Dongles Sound Value Quest

Haven't used New Bees in a bit but I believe a CP145 is longer, as are the dual-flange Spinfits. Final E type would be my go to in this specific case though, unless the nozzles are too wide for the Final stems.

Newbie here! Thoughts on IEMs with electrostatic drivers?

If you don't mind the over $1k territory, possibly also look at Hyla's offerings? They're very well-regarded for bass and also use piezo tweeters.

Newbie here! Thoughts on IEMs with electrostatic drivers?

A lot of folks love the Tape for this, but I haven't heard it yet. I do have the BQEYZ Spring 1 (piezo tweeter), which is a great IEM but requires EQ and/or modding to sound its best. If you get it dialed in, it has really good detail in the mids and highs, and a satisfying thumping sort of...
