    GRADO SR60i or SR80i?

I retract my previous comment, I didnt realize that the 80i's were now shipping with the comfy pads (the standard 80's i believe had bowl pads). Whatever one you get, pick up some bowl pads-I paid $15 for mine at my local shop, and really open up the sound.

    GRADO SR60i or SR80i?

I'd say go for the 80i. I've had my 60's for a long time, and I recently upgraded the pads to the 80's and it lets through much more sound, while being much more comfortable than my quarter modded 60 pads (do a search here). The stock 60's pads sound muffled in comparison. Listen to both phones...

    SR60-Mod part II

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you guys for the easy to follow mods & tips   I was getting bored with my SR-60's (~4 yrs old now) and the air flow mods and dynamat in the enclosure certainly transformed these phones into a giant killer! Looking to eventually recable for a slightly longer...

Drawing too much power off my wall sockets?

sounds like you're overloading the actual circuit. Try unplugging some high power loads that are on the circuit (even in other rooms) that was my solution, since i had 3 pc's, 2 tv's, and a receiver on one circuit, and when my sister turned on her hair dryer (same circuit), it cut out the stereo...

    Ultra Micro DAC, PC Audio

OP, since your micro DAC has a USB input, try using that. I found a pretty big difference from optical out of my sound card to straight USB

If anyone is using Vista give WASAPI in Foobar a go results are excellent

FWIW I had choppiness problems with WASAPI/Foobar that completely went away when i lowered the buffer to <750ms (from 1500). YMMV as I'm on win7

    Ultra Micro DAC, PC Audio

Start from the software end-what media player do you use? Try foobar2000 with the WASAPI plugin (buffer length <750ms) (or ASIO plugin) and compare results Your onboard optical might be littered with jitter causing poor results as well

    Setup help and DAC recommendations

Yes you are correct in that the receiver is acting as the DAC, even when DD live is selected (it's enabling the receiver's option). EAX won't be enabled unless the DAC supports this. You'll still get great sound without EAX, though

    Setup help and DAC recommendations

Also, if you havent already, do a few searches on setting up your music player. If you are on an XP setup, you'll get a free great improvement by setting up kernel streaming or ASIO streaming.

    Setup help and DAC recommendations

the record out is essentially a passthrough, yes. Just put your input in anything BUT the tape input and it will be able to output through the tape out If you're sending a digital signal to your receiver, you're bypassing the Prelude's internal DAC. See how you like it with a 1/8" jack to RCA...

    Setup help and DAC recommendations

since you're using your receiver as a preamp, just make all the connections into the receiver, and pipe your headphone amp through the record out/tape monitor. You'll also only need one DAC (and use only one output of your card as well) Also, your receiver's DAC is likely inferior to a...

    DAC or Go Vinyl?

A phono preamp is absolutely necessary. It provides the necessary 40db gain for line level inputs, as well as RIAA equilization. Do a couple searches on the net if you want to read into it deeper
