The Stax Thread III
Just to say completed the operation today and was much easier than I'd expected. A dab of superglue did the job. In case anyone else comes searching, the plastic cover has a small 'pin' on the other side which goes through a hole in the elastic. This, along with the glue, helps keep everything...- Loz_the_guru

The Stax Thread III
Oh man I can't believe I didn't think of trimming the current elastic, thank you! Is it attached with glue then rather than a clamp? Will any old glue do the trick?- Loz_the_guru

The Stax Thread III
Has anyone had any experience replacing the elastic in the headband of the 007Mk1s? I have a pair I love but they're starting to sag a little. I was basically wondering if I can do a DIY mod and just source a similarly sized piece of elastic and replace this way? However I realise the elastic...- Loz_the_guru

The Stax Thread III
Hello all, I don’t post on here often, but just wanted to give people a heads up on two things. This post is about 50% warning of the dangers of picking the wrong builder for your DIY Stax amp and 50% praise for the community and particular members within it. Firstly – a word of warning – do...- Loz_the_guru

Stax SRM-1/Mk2 Re-cap
Hi all, Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was hoping for some advice. I've got an SM-1/Mk2, and i'm thinking of replacing the caps. I opened it up the other day and they look okay, but i'm they're also originals so probably have a fair few hours under there belt at this point. I've looked at...- Loz_the_guru

Free software that will automatically use the correct sample rate on my DAC
Hi all, I have an M2Tech Young DAC, and would like to take full advantage of the wide range of sample rates it can handle. Currently it is set to 96khz by Windows. I use Media Monkey to play back files, and I presume all are converted upwards/downwards before the DAC passes them to my amp...- Loz_the_guru

Schiit Fulla 2, Modi 2/Magni 3, or other DAC/amp for HD58X?
I love tubes (late convert) but they're definitely not for everyone or every type of music, particularly if you like your sound 'clinical'. It's worth listening to a set if you can to give yourself an idea. Alas I've never heard the 59x's so can't comment.- Loz_the_guru

Post your computer specs!~
Yeah my case is a node 304 and it's a tight squeeze, a mini itx card is usually a better bet. I'm not too fussed about absolute max settings, high is good enough for me at 1080p. I'll see what happens to prices but can't really see myself spending over £150 tops.- Loz_the_guru

Soundstage wide and deep
I had a pair of HD598s as my first 'proper' headphones and think they're an excellent starting point. You should be able to pick them and a decent fiio dac/amp combo up for sub $150 used I'd imagine.- Loz_the_guru

Thanks, I will be holding out for sure but probably for the effect it has on current prices as I'm unlikely to want/need something top of the range. Would a second hand 970 be worthwhile? Or do I need to go a notch higher? I suppose really I'm thinking of the new doom game and fallout 4, as by...- Loz_the_guru

Mine is getting o a bit now but I can't seem to find a reason to upgrade! 4670k 8gb ram Gigabyte z87 board - originally I ran it as a hackintosh 760gtx I play some fairly simple games, the most demanding being overwatch/doom. I do flirt with the idea of changing the graphics card though...- Loz_the_guru

70mai Dash Cam International - budget, solid and feature-loaded
I'm a big fan of xiaomi gear, well made and looks good to boot. Not sure about dashcams though, although if it was able to hide the cabling a bit more easily I might be persuaded. I always see them mounted behind the mirror, and it'd be messy/a pain to get cabling here for me.- Loz_the_guru

HTC 10 DAC Recommendation
Isn't one of the selling points of the HTC 10 its DAC? Obvious starting points would be a fiio of some description. If you've got a bit more cash though an Oppo ha-2 might be worth looking at?- Loz_the_guru

Nintendo Switch
The issue I have with skyrim switch is the lack of mods, but otherwise its great to be able to play on the go. That and the premium price tag! Love my switch though and playing lots of indie titles I've previously missed too!- Loz_the_guru

Rain Jackets?
Another +1 for arcteryx here. I also really like Rab and Mountain Equipment stuff. I think mountain equipment use eVent rather than goretex, but in my view its as good or better.- Loz_the_guru

Budget amp/dac to go with Sennhreiser HD 58x
Fiio amps are fine, but are better suited for portable applications IMO. It sounds like you will be using a desktop. Have you thought about buying a cheap amp now, and à separate DAC later? On this note, I really like the HRT streamer DACs. They're getting on a bit now but still sound great to...- Loz_the_guru

Should I clean the inside of my old amps?
Depends how dirty they are. I'm sure a quick dust down wouldn't hurt (provided you're not using liquid cleaning products etc), but unless they are fan cooled. I wouldn't imagine they'd attract too much dust inside.- Loz_the_guru

DAC or Preamp to match HD700 + Graham Slee UD combo?
Hi all, My setup currently looks like: HRT Streamer II Graham Slee Ultra Linear Diamond Amp Sennheiser HD700 cans Nordost Phono/QED USB interconnects I've kept it pretty static for a while but fancy upgrading somewhere. The Amp + Cans seem to be of higher spec than the DAC, so I was thinking...- Loz_the_guru
