    SONY NW-ZX2

By some weird miracle I'm still able to run both Qobuz and Spotify. I might have side loaded them though; can't remember. It's been ages since I updated any of the software. I'm also running an old version of UAPP, but as it can't directly access the DAC chip I don't bother most of the time. I...

Super easy transaction and a pleasure to deal with. Amp (tube!) came well packed.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

Exactly. I have the QC 2 and by all accounts the Ultra are not that different. The mystery is why Bose chose such a horrible tuning. They make music so blah and unengaging, completely destroying natural timbre. On top of that they don't image at all and soundstage is non existent. Listen to Bach...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I'm pretty late to the Status Between Pro, but for some reason I'm fixated on fixing their sound even though they annoy me to no end. Right out of the box, they were a mess and needed a few days for the drivers to settle in. I think they are about as good as they are going to get, but that bass...

    Technics EAH-AZ80 True Wireless Earbuds

Oh that would explain a lot. Yeah I only picked these up recently. Totally agree they are all over the place when it comes to tips. Is there any consensus that TWS have arrived at listenable with these? I mean we can all differ on sound preferences but there's generally consensus that gear is...

    Technics EAH-AZ80 True Wireless Earbuds

Read this whole thread and I gotta say I completely disagree with the Treble+ setting, as it makes the AZ80 sound decidedly mid-fi. The high end becomes really hard and over cooked. Yes, the highs are shelved and lack air when compared to say Andromeda, and lack the energy of HA-FD01, but the...

    SONY NW-ZX2

Cool! UAPP is such a gem, and in audiophile dollars is more or less free. Other DSP includes MQA decode, if anyone reading this is into that sort of thing. True, the UPnP renderer on ZX2 then sends it through Android audio stack, which resamples it to 44.1, but you do get the benefits of a...

    SONY NW-ZX2

I just came back to the ZX2 after a long time away. USBAPP is streaming Qobuz very well. I'm still using an APK that the developers sent me a few years ago. It's using the Android Audio driver still as no one knows how to access that Sony DAC directly apparently. So everything is resampled to...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Just an update to this: I sent the A2 in for the Unison upgrade, along with a note about it not maintaining signal lock. The folks at Schitt were great; it came back without the problem. This was over a month ago and it's been rock solid. I'm on the east coast so total turn around time was about...

That might be outdated. Did you see this? https://www.head-fi.org/threads/usb-audio-player-pro-uapp-24-and-32-bit-playback-ubiquitous-usb-audio-support-for-android.704065/page-297#post-16168878 I do go into developers option and force LDAC to high bit-rate and BT sampling rate to 96kHz.

UAPP has an option to use its own audio driver with BT, with the caveat that it "might not work on every device". You don't need it of course and can just send everything through Android audio. With the ES100 it sounded a little bit better to my ears.

UAPP is super cheap though, and the additional parametric EQ (for like $1.49 extra or something like that) is solid too. One of my chains is Qobuz -> UAPP -> high bit rate BT LDAC -> ES100 - HD 6xx balanced. Really satisfying for when I'm doing chores around the house. The ES100 tops out at 48hz...

Sold to me. :) Really not sure why these languish (I left plenty of time for someone else to pick them up). Blows the Hidizs S9 Pro out of the water.

Since Qobux is leading the pack: what do you use with Qobuz? I'm on Linux almost all the time so I really like the web client, as I like to read the playlist notes, album blurb, artist bio, as well as the ability to zoom in on the album cover art. What I use to stream Qobuz to my speakers though...

@AnakChan do you remember what the high/low OI numbers were? I think I bought it off you in 2018? I still have the amp and enjoy it quite a bit. It's strictly a cold-weather amp for me though, but this is no problem as I'm in Boston, where it acts as a nice space heater. I have never heard an...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Oh what I mean is that when it tries to switch sample rates, it fails to lock, and then there is no sound. It does not even reacquire the signal lock if I switch back to the original sample rate. As for sources, I've tried it with PC (Linux w/ Pipewire which currently has to resample to a...

My A2 (had it for a few years) has lately not been able to switch sampling rate. No blinking lights or anything, input selection works fine, it just never acquires a signal lock, and power cycling doesn't help, and I have to leave it completely unplugged for an hour or overnight I've been down...

Edit: it's not that stable :( you can't stream and download at the same time without risking corruption. Can't plug in to a laptop and mount as usb storage device either while downloaded. Instant corruption, resulting in not being able to download anymore tracks. So the latest Qobuz Android app...

    Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread

I was not expecting much last night. I've been a TIDAL customer for 2 or 3 years, and I would still be on TIDAL except I misplaced my CC last month and had to cancel it and forgot/ignored TIDAL's nag emails. I had not had a serious listening session in a while, punched up TIDAL and hey, oh yeah...

    ZMF Verite Open

Verite with BE2 pads & SS amplification have pretty much taken over my listening time. The combination of speed, grip, bass extension/impact/control, and an expansive soundstage is just so addicting for tracks like Extrawelt's Dark Side of My Room. But the other reason they are getting so much...

ADS were a speaker manufacture that peaked in the early 80s apparently. They weren't even on my radar when I came of audio-age in the early 90s. My particular pair are ADS L710, moderately sized three-way sealed enclosures built in 1979 as far as I can tell. They sound great, no qualifications...

I have not heard it but look into the ECP Ravenswood 3F; it was designed specifically for Focal. The Ragnarok won’t do the layered 3D holographic thing as well as good tubes but for my ears and music it’s a better all around amp, if you factor in versatility and all-genre suitability. I...

    ZMF Verite Open

I read the above and was thinking about how to characterize Verite speed with respect to planars. This is a weird analogy, but I'm sure some of you know why it's on my mind: Verite is "fast" like a planar, but if Verite were an Avenger, it'd be fast and nimble like Captain America, while a...
