Sennheiser HD800 vs Sony SA5000?
The only fact that I can extract from that pile of nonsense is that you never, in your miserable ignorant troll existence, compared waterfall plots of any headphones.- TimPrice

Go for sound card?
IMO the surround effects are just crap, I mean, the HD800's soundstage can't be simulated by software. I would definitely first upgrade your headphones to whatever you might like better than your current ones.- TimPrice

Soundcard
Yeah, what cans do you have? It would only worth it if you have really good headphones.- TimPrice

Who still has the Sony SA5000?
You get used to it, I can compare them to the DT880's, which are worse IMO, similar to most bright 'studio' phones. And it helps if you mod them to enable the drivers to get more air. But never spend 800 dollars on them, too much. Same here, drums are my benchmark since I tried the...- TimPrice

Microphone isn't working - Xonar Essence ST
Happened to me quiet a few times when I was using Win7, make sure you have the last version of the drivers installed just in case. My workaround was to, with the microphone plugged in, try to restart the device in the 'device manager' console to get the 'microphone' device available and...- TimPrice

Good headset for speech recognition
I guess it's more important to record properly, so focus on the microphone, your current headphones should be enough unless you have trouble understanding the voices.- TimPrice

Asus Xonar Dg and Teamspeak
Quote: If you play any game with serious positioning audio engine (the best one I heard is in the Codemaster's F1 series) the dolby EFFECTS, because they are that, just make it fancy but not by any means more realistic or useful. If you have a proper 7.1 speaker setup it's another...- TimPrice

Asus Xonar Dg and Teamspeak
I assume that the Asus control panel operates at the drivers level, so the only workaround could be configuring the sound in every app itself with the proper driver support, so, just no, UNLESS the app itself modifies the output by their own software. And by the way, that Dolby fake crap...- TimPrice

New to High-end Headphones, need advice.
Avoid Grado if you know what soundstage is. You don't really need an amp for a DT770, just turn up a bit the volume. Maybe Sennheiser 518? Audio Technica M50? Search on the forum for impressions and reviews.- TimPrice

Which has better bass? (16Hz-20kHz, 20Hz-20kHz, or 20Hz-23kHz)
On that pricepoint most headphones are pure trash. I would say Koss UR40/PortaPro or some Sony's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYzwthTRYRs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c45C-AKAHEA- TimPrice

Asus Xonar and Windows 8 RTM
Xonar DSX now has official Win8 (x64) drivers, as Xonar D1, DX & DG and Essence STX. So, it seems that they are releasing them for both current and old products and pci/pci-e. I guess drivers for remaining models should be expected :)- TimPrice
