I don't think it was implied to be new, just effective. Nor do I think originality is a pertinent concern when modding headphones.

The bracket on the ear side has a large gap so the volume is not sealed and this already weakly driven diaphragm can not properly excurse. This mod makes the driver behave much better overall (along with some rear damping because the headphone literally has none).

No idea where you get the "smaller fit" idea from. These are large headphones. I have a large head and wear them with 0 extension on the headband. At full extension they are ridiculously huge and larger than the head of perhaps a handful of people in the world.

My guy, that is a unmounted driver in free air just to show higher sensitivity than mylar. It's not the response of anything in a headphone.
