if a DAC has jitter correction then...

do i need a top hat for a RPi? let me explain a bit. using a headless player such as MoOde with a RPi3 via its built in wifi should bypass the well known USB/Ethernet problem so allowing the use of an external USB DAC. the files will be stored local on the Micro SD card so no...

Album Art, Meta Data, and Wav files

i personally dont like embedding artwork and much prefer to organise my music library correctly. depending on the player you dont have to tag wav files as most players read folder/filename structure. this is why its important to have a properly organised library. be lazy get bad results. Root...

Album Art, Meta Data, and Wav files

by default WAV does not store metadata. you can use MP3Tag but you will have to configure it. always store your rips in the proper naming starting off with folders. Artist folder/Artist Album/ then you name the album.. Artist - Album - Track # - Song Title. to display artwork for the album...

Most Comfortable Open Back $200 headphones?

DT-990 Edition (not Pro) are tuned and designed for home use. the clamping force is reduced but one still needs to bend the headband to suit their head. just pick your ohms flavour depending on your amplification. i personally preferred the DT-880 Edition (not Pro) as i found the sound...

HD6XX + Amplification + Wide sound stage question!

OPPO phones have built in DSP (real sound technology) and most players like the one that comes with it or pulsar dont turn it off. the setting is in settings/sound and vibration "global sound"/real sound technology. i have an oppo a74 5g. using an app like HiBy Music Player (you can get it free...

I think I want a DAC, but what is it?

a Digital to Analogue Converter takes a digital music signal from another device/source and converts the digital signal into analogue to be passed on to usually amplification like say a headphone amp. dont try and convert CD rips in FLAC to 24 bit. it does weird things, well so i have read.

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

what you are hearing compared to other Beyer headphones is midrange. so maybe you have a preference for V shaped sound signature. for me the pads are fantastic but i dont have huge ears. also with the DT700/900 you must bend the head band to suit your head size as the clamping force is really...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

maybe its just me thats very sensitive to sibilance then. i have/had DT-770 Pro 80r, DT-990 Edition 32r, DT-880 Edition 600r, Custom One Pro 16r + mongrels and DT-900 ProX 48r. and every singe one has a sibilant peak when things get a bit hot in recordings. thing is i dont hear "sibilance" in...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

you need to remove the foam outside the centre. doing this lets the radiated/reflected sound move back into the cups and a lot faster and the result is a lot less muddyness/in cup sound and they sound more like listening to speakers. i'm still experimenting with felt disc replacement materials...

New Beyerdynamic Pro X line: DT 700 Pro X and DT 900 Pro X

you should have tried a pad swap while you were at it. 900 pads to 700 and 700 pads to 900. i know for a fact that the 700 pads on the 900's make the 900's a lot more bottom end orientated sound wise. bets that the 900 pads make the 700's very analytical. messing around with the ear foam discs...

Is there better than SoundBlaster X3 with 7.1 output for less than $200?

whats its use? does it really have to be 7.1? personally i would buy a second hand 5.1 AV amp instead. that way it does more onboard codec decoding, more power, more inputs more well everything.

    Testing audiophile claims and myths

The Ethernet cables, Switches and Network related sound thread. Share your listening experience only.

i guess what i'm saying is up to a certain length of network cable it makes absolutely no difference what you use but if you have dodgy termination it will. yes shielding from EMI, AC voltages (the twisting in the cable takes care of a lot though) etc.etc is a must but apart from that it makes...

The Ethernet cables, Switches and Network related sound thread. Share your listening experience only.

correct but most people cant or dont want to understand how it works. there is a whole complex chain of events with networking to make sure that the bytes of data sent from one end get to the other end intact but you can still get corruption of data. your not sending 1.s and 0.s your sending...

    Recommend me a DAC

so far i'm pretty happy with the E30 so it will stay in my system for now. i might upgrade the power to a dedicated linear supply in the future. the E30 is way better than the dac stage in the X3 II.

16 devices into two outlets is a fire waiting to happen. get a electrician in to fit more outlets to your ring main or even better get a dedicated consumer unit/fuse box put in for your audio gear.
