Have you tried the 0001 setting? That should have the least bass and thus more perceived treble.

Buds2 are excellent. Its perfectly tuned bass and lower midrange are the highlights. In my opinion, they can rival C$100 IEMs like the Moondrop Aria (which I wouldn't recommend in the current market), plus they have a bunch of features and are much more convenient than wired IEMs.

I also have the X7. Definitely departure of the usual U-shaped tuning, but I've noticed that I was able to pick up nuances in vocals easier (probably due to its odd 1.5kHz emphasis). It does sound less natural though, especially when switching to it from a more Harman-tuned IEM.

I've also been using the PR1 Pro with a 300 mesh on the nozzle, along with Sony tips. Been using it as my main IEM for over a month now :)

No sure if this has been asked before but can you plug both a headphone cable and a USB cable into the device at the same time? Looks like the ports are too close to each other...

The difference between 25ohms and 27ohms isn't significant in this case, so your iPod's OI probably won't have much of an impact.

Vernus is by far my favourite IEM. I like it a lot more than the much more expensive Dunu Zen Pro or Moondrop Variations.

That's also part of the magnetic structure. It's the outer circular part you see in the teardown picture. It's a standard part in many DD designs, such as in the Aria: It's just a single DD.

There's probably going to be a boat-load of new planars being released later this year. Might be worth waiting, unless you've got money to burn. :)

It is indeed subbass-focused. :) The driver configuration is quite interesting. Using a compact piezo supertweeter vs. Sonion ESTs (and their ancillary transformer unit) allowed them to fit a large bone conduction unit inside whilst achieving good treble extension. How does the treble compare...

Apparently there may be an issue in at least some of the early production units, which were shipped with the wrong nozzle mesh filter, resulting in more upper mids and treble. Crinacle is trying to work this out right now with 7Hz. How it should graph:
