Show us your Head-Fi station at it's current state. No old pictures please...
Nothing too fancy, but it's a great work from home setup that I love to sit at even when not working. And when I do work I don't want to go to the office where I need to make do with some ANC cans. Covid really brought me back into the hobby  M1 MacBook Air into AOC 4K monitor that...- Braver

The dongle is excellent! So you’re using that as the input into the Atom? That could actually be really convenient... why didn’t I think of that?- Braver

JDS Labs ATOM Amp
“much” in this context is pretty ridiculous. If you auditioned them at exactly matched volumes I honestly don’t believe you can tell them apart. This is not magic, amplifiers operate by science. Vastly different, well implemented amplifiers, don’t sound “much” different. This is from actual...- Braver

JDS Labs ATOM Amp
I tried to put some more comparative listening in today. I had a great time listening tunes and rediscovering old standards, but as far as a "test" goes it was kinda lame. No way to level match properly, and no blind nothing. What I thought was an improved clarity, blacker backgrounds, in the...- Braver

> Why not check out the EL AMP II? Well that is the logical step up indeed. Importing from the US is prohibitively expensive though, especially when you go over €150. And Schiit and Topping also have products in the ~100USD range that should be good, have local resellers, and are maybe more...- Braver

JDS Labs ATOM Amp
Also, on rock albums the Atom is what I call loud at 11 o’clock, on quieter albums (mastered for more dynamic range) I’m still below 1. At low gain. Excellent stuff. ... I do which there was a luxury upgrade version that feels better. What’s inside is not really the only thing that matters.- Braver

I’m running a Rega Planar 3 with Ortofon 2M Bronze, or a NAD C525 into a Cambridge DAC Magic 100. Also some Tidal streaming, but kinda roundabout via an Apple TV into the same DAC, it’s not my primary mode. The Cambridge DAC was a pretty great upgrade for the CDP actually. I got it over the...- Braver

JDS Labs ATOM Amp
I just received my new Atom amp to run my HD600's. This is an entirely different beast than my Woo WA6 (v1). :astonished: In every way and more so than I anticipated! Everything about the WA6 just feels solid and nice. In comparison everything about the Atom is really light and cheap. It...- Braver

Quote: I know! It's already showing so much more resolution on the HD580 than I was used to though. The Arietta I had never displayed the difference between my CDP and Ipod as clearly as this thing does: appreciating the NAD a lot more now ;) Quote: I won't do the unpacking...- Braver

Lol, yeah, I've a bunch of tubes lying around ever since ordering the wa6, waiting to be rolled :D Anyway, it works now, not sure what did it... Just followed Jack's tips on reinstalling and reconnecting everything... Let me just repeat my reaction to Jack: "I do not comprehend why...- Braver

Yeah, I did. Jack responded promptly with a couple of things to try, so I'll give it another shot. In a way I'm glad this happened with something built by people like the Woos, rather than something Chinese from EBay...- Braver

Well my WA6 has arrived and it's a beautiful piece of kit. Heavy! Love the tubes and the way they light up. Now if only there was sound coming out of the right channel... Still trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, but it kinda looks like this needs to be going back on a trip...- Braver

Quote: I would indeed expect a lot of Philips tubes to be available around here but have had no luck finding a seller for WA6 drive tubes. Well, cr@p. I'm looking to upgrade to a tube amp and decided to read this thread all the way through first, but I can almost not keep up Perhaps I should just order that WA6 with the Sophia cause I know I want one anyway... Two questions: 1. Any other Europeans have experience ordering...- Braver

Ayreon - good for the long haul
Same here. Used to listen to a lot of stuff like Ayreon and Arena, loads of related side projects like Nolan&Wakeman - Jabberwocky. Can't stand it anymore though :D. Ayreon lasted only weeks. It's just too much. In fact, I don't listen to many Pink Floyd albums that often for the same reason... -
Rega P3 and Ortofon om20... Should I shim?
Huh, what are you talking about here? I don't need numbers to know if something works or not, and I'm not asking for recommendations on other carts, i just told you guys it sounds fine. If I could calculate how something sounds I'd listen to a computer. So, no actual experience on the merits and...- Braver

Rega P3 and Ortofon om20... Should I shim?
Also, while we're at it... What is the purple cart that I just replaced? Didn't sound that great, but perhaps it has some resale value? (plug: anyone interested in a purple rega cart? A dual 505-2 with crappy cables? An ortofon om10 cart with needle, but without the brass weight? ;) )- Braver
