    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Has anyone ever done a tear down of the Z1R? I was wondering if it's possible to remove the cup grills for modding. Update: Nvm, I found the service manual online. Link is here, in case you need it: https://static-pt.com/modelManual/SONY-MDRZ1R_sm.pdf

The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

I have the 1A and I got the batt replaced in Dec '23. I happened to still know the guy from Music Sanctuary (Singapore), which carried out the initial K-Mod all those years ago, and he obliged. Sony still carries the parts and he ordered a batt off them (handed me the receipt from Sony) then...

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

Been almost 2 years since I put them away on account of the disintegrating headband and pads. But now that they're "restored", some quick impressions against my regular Sony MDR-Z1R : The Nighthawks just don't reach as deep in the bass and the sound can be a little anemic by comparison...

    SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

VanNuys cases are cool in that they can connect to other accessories. Here it's connected to a back panel, with another padded pouch for IEMs. This whole thing hangs by my bed for convenient in-bed listening.

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

I finally disassembled the headstrap and it was a LOT easier than I thought. This part below is made from a slightly rubbery material, and flexes easily for the t-shaped retention pins to pop off with a twist. Then I puzzled over how to use the Hifiman headband... And it occurred to me to be...

    SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Just found out my WM1AM2 has a microphone. And an accelerometer. Like, why? Is this because Sony used some components from their Android phones? Didn't they build these DAPs from the ground up? Has anyone else found a use for these as they pertain to the Walkman?

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Quick and easy project. Trimmed up the foam a little more so there's less pressure on the earpads. Then picked up some red satin and replaced the black stock one. I think it looks gorgeous. OK, I'm done now. 😄

    SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Sometimes it's kinda hard to tell on the forums. Had someone else elevate his BP over something I said a few posts back.

Yeahhh... that's not really how magnets work. The magnet in the stand is strong enough to hold your hardware but the strength of the field drops off within a few mm from the surface. I don't think there's enough mf radiation to generate any current in a static object, even if it's copper. The...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

My simple answer is, "yes". Anything in the signal path will colour the sound to a greater or lesser degree. Depending on the amp, this could "dramatically" change how your Z1R presents itself... HOWEVER It won't change the animal, so to speak. You will still get a similar profile and...

    SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Am currently using one of these wooden stands just because I like the look of it. But in the past, I've used the sleek magnetic ones. There are about a gajillion variants out there at different prices. Only drawback is you've got to stick on a metal plate (usually comes provided) on the back...

Got a new case for the WM1AM2. Looks exactly like the old one except the dimensions are taller to accommodate the M2 DAPs. VanNuys also makes these leather belt attachments so the cases can be slung to a belt.

VanNuys makes a panel that you can hang accessories on. The panel can subsequently be hung or slung for you to take everything out in one convenient carrier.

Am still using the remote for the WM1A/Z. Unfortunately this is really expensive now, even if you can find them on the Japanese shopfronts. Heard from Sony staff that this has been discontinued.

At such close proximity viewing, you're better off listening to the audio through the balanced output, if you're obsessed with quality. Or stream directly to a BT headset if you prefer the convenience. If you want both badly, you might want to consider an Android tablet that will transmit LDAC.

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Found this on Aliexpress, if you're interested. Seems they took the Z1R cup and made a turning out of wood for a Hifiman? There are quite a few other seller options. https://a.aliexpress.com/_okW0evg

    SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2

Er... you have a source, like a laptop or an iPad and you're using the WM1A/ZM2 as a DAC... and you want that to output to a speaker/amp over BT? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using the DAP as a DAC? A BT signal is digital so it will be decoded again by a BT DAC at the receiver. Why not...
