Beyer included a face similar to a compass and square, interesting. Would you recommend this as a traveler?

@Soundsgoodtome : do you mean for traveling?  Personally, I'm more of an IEM/CIEM type when traveling, but a lot of people don't want to stick headphones in their ears, thus a love for full size over-/on-ear.  For traveling, they are definitely great.  B&W P5 (S2) is another great alternative I forgot to mention in my review, but it cost 2x as much and has a bit stronger clamping force, though sound is more audiophile friendly.  When it comes to headphones, it nearly impossible to choose "the one" just by reading reviews.  Reviews should be your guidance to narrow it down to a few choices within your budget, and often you actually have to buy and to compare these to figure out which one you like the best (thank God for Amazon returns ).

Nice review....good description. I own a pair and love em. So I am biased. But your details are spot on,imo.

With a good source they sounds better and better. From my QLS 360 they are killers of HD25 and M50.
They are power hungry, this should be noticed, even from my Macbook SQ is much better than from any iPod/Walkman/Smartphone.
For any money - this is a very good phones. And yes, they are super universal.

Burn-in time should be 100+ hours, a cocnur with bass description. On 2pos with a good source you will noticw much more subbass, and on 3pos you will have more subwoofer effect with more mid-bass hump, fo hip-hop lover it could be heaven.

Great review @twister6. I just got my Custom Street headphones this week and have been enjoying them so far. I agree with most of your points. This is my first $100+ pair of on-ear headphones. My normal go-to has been the ATH M50 (me and everyone else, right?). However, the over-ear design isn't ideal when I'm wearing glasses in front of the computer for eight hours, so I wanted to try on-ear cans. The clamping force on the Custom Street will take some getting used to, but I mostly expected this. I'd been considering Sennheiser HD 25-1 II, but they're pricey and a lot of people mentioned high clamping force on those. I owned a pair of V-Moda XS for about a week, but the lack of rotating ear cups was a deal-breaker for me, so I regretfully sent them back to Amazon.

The Custom Street definitely has some punchy bass with the sliders fully open. However, when I'm listening to EDM and hip hop, I don't think it's too overbearing. When I want a little more neutrality for rock and metal, the middle position is great. I find the fully closed position too analytical. The build quality seems pretty solid. Prior to these, I owned a pair of DTX 350p, but the headband snapped in half after a few months. Beyerdynamic repaired them for free, but they snapped again after another three months. This time they credited me the price of the DTX toward another model, and so I chose these. Anyway, I'm still on the fence about the comfort level (I have a large head, which doesn't help), but I imagine the clamping pressure will ease up a little over time. I have fairly large ears, so I haven't had a problem with the cups as you described.

Anyway, sorry for the short novel. Cheers

@erasure : sorry bud, I have too many posted reviews, can't answer all the questions on time :)  I got Custom Street stored in a box somewhere, will take me awhile to dig it out, but by memory I prefer M50x bass better, goes deeper and more controlled.  Keep in mind, we are talking about over ear vs on-ear where the seal will play a huge role.  Street is no slouch, but M50x will have an edge.  Don't have and never owned any cowon players, sorry.

I already have the M50, so the street will no be an upgrade...
what can you suggest as an upgrade to the M50, the DT770 ???

Thanks!
