Cool review cheers! As a recent happy owner of the 7200 I can read much familiar stuff. What is the travel case? A link please

Thank you for your review, which as a d9200 owner I fully agree with. Incredible that this is the first review of this exceptional headphone here. It seems to me that Denon as a brand is not very popular with audiophiles who prefer more exotic boutique brands as an expression of their exclusive taste and knowledge.

Excellent Review. I own Denon D9200, Focal Utopia and Hifiman HE 1000 SE. To keep it short I would say D9200 come very close to Utopia and HE 1000 SE, at less than half price of the other two. How close do they come to utopia ? very close, the highs are almost just precise as Utopia yet softer in tonality , bass is just right, mids are slightly recessed but very natural...think of D9200 as utopia with a softer presentation, however so far of all the headphones I have listened to Utopia's have the best resolution, detail retrieval, surgically precise imaging and best of the class dynamics ... D9200 as I mentioned has a softer presentation.

Compared to HE 1000se , its sound stage is smaller (as is of utopia as well) , highs are just as precise as HE 1000SE , Mids are a bit laid back and HE 1000SE'S bass can hit harder, but HE 1000SE is twice the price of D9200. Of all the headphones I own I feel D9200 provides the best value in under $2000 category, and may actually be the best value overall as it competes quite well with headphones that cost a lot more ...

@ VonBoedfeld I completely agree, Denon's are very under-rated and most audiophiles like to prefer boutique brands and either ignore the mainstream brands such as denon or critique them more harshly as in case of Sony premium headphones such as MDR-Z1R

Very intrigued. These are rare, but if anyone could compare them with ZMF Auteur or Eikon of Fostex TH-X00 it'd be much appreciated. Those are the closed cans I have much experience with.

I don't have ZMF , But compared to TH-X00 Denon D9200, more resolving, very detailed and delicate high, softer presentation. Th-X00 have more Bass, and more impact. TH-X00 is excellent with hard Rock, RAP, Blues, Hip Hop etc, D9200 sounds better with pop, soft rock etc... Overall Denon D9200, are better headphones but then again not for genres that require more Bass and overall impact

have used my 7200 for a year but today I listened to the 9200 for 10 minutes and bought one right away -- it is amazing! It will arrive in one week and I cant wait.

I have been listening to the D7200 for a while and curiously I have documented myself on the D9200, from what I read they are the same drivers with bamboo cups, more precious finishes and a more beautiful cable .. If that were the case, it would not be enough to put the cable on the D7200 to have the same sound?

I just bought a pair of these, new, along with a Sony NW-WM1A, also new. All I get is distant, muffled sound. Others are telling me you need power to drive these yet every review I read says that these can be driven from a phone. What's going on?

@chiron7 that's strange. Though, I have experienced unexpected variations in performance.
On my Macbook Pro all the good boxes are ticked and then some.
On the well regarded headphone out on my VTL-IT85 it's good but comparatively veiled and bloated /distant.
On my Taurus Mk ii things are more snappy than the VTL but less than the Macbook, there is more depth than the Macbook.
Its great on my Samsung S8 but falls behind the Macbook and can be slightly harsh with harsh recordings and I prefer the Taurus.

Denon AH-D9200 is the best-closed back below USD 2000. The only phone that beats this is Focal Stelia but that one is USD 3600. Dynamic drivers are the most difficult to get right and Denon got it right.

Once I paired the Arctic Cable with the Stellia it really narrowed the gap with the D9200
