Excellent review :)  Thank you.
Seems like a silly question, however I am silly and therefore will ask.
How does the overall tonality of these compare to the Ether C 1.1 if you have had the change to hear them?

I have a pair and I am looking for some balanced sounding iems to use on the commute.  I tend to lean towards bassier iems for commuting on noisy train, however if these isolate as well as people say, I shouldn't notice as much drop off in the lower registers presumably.

Again excellent review and thank you!

Thanks, mate!

Sorry, I have never heard or owned any MrSpeakers headphone yet. The closest full-sized headphone to one of their models would probably be my (100% stock) T50RP Mk3. Other planars I own are the LCD-X and HE-400.

You can find a full list of my headphones and the ones I got for review on my (mostly German) audio and review blog (http://kopfhoerer-lounge.blogspot.com/p/meine-kopfhorer.html), so if you want me to compare the ER•4X with some specific models that I have here, just let me know. :)

Nice review. P.S., I have never thought of using the word "wherefore" until reading your writing--now I may have to reconsider!

HiFiChris,

Thank you for the informative and very accurate information about these wonderful IEMs. Spot on review. The realism these bring to whatever you are listening to is pure Etymotic magic. Well, that is if you believe in magic.

Thanks for the response., I think from the list you have there, I am very familiar with the LCD X, Orivetti Basic. ie800.
I would imagine most of those would be very different to the ER4Xr though, so drawing comparison may be difficult :)

LCD-X: More warmth and fullness; darker in the highs.

BASIC: ~ 7 dB bassier in comparison, also a bit warmer and darker but not necessarily much fuller (the ORIVETI's bass ebbs down to the fundamental range quite nicely, avoiding some bloom).

IE 800: v-shaped; ~ 6 dB more bass, more fullness; recessed middle highs (~ 3-5 kHz) & forward, metallic upper highs (~ 10 kHz).
