Hey Peter! Great review, but I have one question that stands out - you noted a difference in sound between devices on aptX using the same headphones - I thought aptX bypassed the DAC on the device? I am not trying to be contrary here, but genuinely curious! I have yet to use aptX audio!

Hi enttagedlemon, AptX is audio coding algorithm that delivers better soud quality over bluetooth. But what the phones do with it when it is received is what makes all buetooth phones sound different. But aptX phones sound better than none apteX phones by a country mile. But you can not beat wires and in my opinion balanced is often best if the source is worthy.

It was more around where you said "AptX is enabled, mid range appears a bit less clear than with the x7 but bass is the same". I took that to mean it sounded different on the X7 and the X5iii over aptX-enabled bluetooth on both devices?

yes I would say that was true, in the same way that my aptX enabled phone sounds different again, aptX being the transfer coding algorithm. I also think that Wi-Fi sounds better than aptX along with being better range and more reliable. But some of the techies heres may put me right.

you are saying x5 3rd has same signature as ak jr and x5 2nd has same signature as x5 3rd. i must disagree. i dont know how about 3rd, but 2nd gen and ak jr sound completely different. one is neutral, relaxed, with intimate soundstage and second is warm, midrange focused, with bigger sense of space, mellow, but detailed highs and with more natural tonality of instruments.
