Sajid what do you think of the prima luna? Is that the evo400 ?

3 years ago I had the Primaluna Dialogue Premium HP and HD800 sounded great from it. Wish I had kept it. Was only running 8 x KT88 then. Didn't try EL34 tubes.

@smodtactical Mine are the EVO 200. I haven’t used it in a while tbh. The e380 and the XA25 get used the most. In general, they have played well with the Auteur. Accentuates the Auteur’s midrange, vocals, and slam. Not enough drive to run the Susvaras off the HP output (which is, otherwise, quite good). May use the resistor box or DIY one to try the Susvaras off the speaker taps.

"the Susvaras can play well with as low as 3.4 or 3.5 watts into their 62.5 ohms (if not lower)" hmnn... woo wa5 and oblivion amps offer less than 1W into 60ohms and both amps drive Susvara to satisfactory levels. By saying "3.4 or 3.5 watts" did you mean max power the amp offers?
Sajid Amit
Sajid Amit
@foefoe no, not max power. For max power on the amp, you can go way way higher.

Thanks for the review. It is helpful. I am running my Susvara with Topping D90 + A90 and I love it. However, its been a while and I guess I want to step up one more step in the ladder just to see how much Susvara can scale further.

Fantastic review, both very informative and a pleasure to read! I take it that the Utopia don't quite belong in the same league? :)

@Mista Lova Lova hey man, thanks for reading. The Utopia, despite its delicious slam, just doesn’t do it for me in terms of stage, and its not as detailed as the Susvara, and certainly not the TC, so yeah, I would say the TC and the Susvara along with the SR1a and some Stax are in a slightly higher league than the Utopia! 🙂

Thanks for your reply. :) I love my Utopia but sometimes I feel like listening to something on a bigger stage (to be honest, I think Focal would have messed the headphone up if they tried to force a bigger stage on it, something would have suffered as a result- perhaps it's best reserved for planar headphones) and for that reason I've kept my Hifiman Arya, which is technically not so great, but its stage and presentation of sound are delicious. I have recently had a chance to listen to the HE1000se and I thought it could be a worthy upgrade to the Arya and a complementary headphone to the Utopia. I did not spend enough time with it but I was not 100% convinced - it was technically so much better than the Arya, and the bass and treble extension were crazy (treble sometimes too crazy) but they were quite tiring to listen to and somehow the sound was not as enveloping as the Arya's (romantic vs precise delivery of sound?).

Have you had a chance to listen to the HEKse? If so - on a combo like the D90 and A90, would they pretty much sound like the Susvara (with the latter pulling ahead on a speaker amp)?

Hey man. No, I think the Sus would easily best a hekse, most noticeably in tonality, and also sufficiently noticeably in technical performance, even on a d90 a90 rig. @Mista Lova Lova

Sajid do you think there is a shift happening away from susvara in favor of tc and other headphones? It seems man prior proponents of it are starting to sell and move on.

@smodtactical Hey man, over at the Head-Fi Facebook group, I keep seeing more and more people buying the Susvara. But the TC is also incredibly popular and rightfully so. Not sure if there's a move from the Sus to the TC, but I know a lot of people who buy the Sus, end up buying/trying the other summit-fi stuff, including myself.
