@Hawaiibadboy : Chris, as soon as I got notification about your comment, even before I opened it, I knew right away the question is going to be about X7 I intentionally didn't include X7 in the comparison, and focused only on summit-fi level DAPs. To my ears, with a current fw and IEM module X7 is at the top of mid-fi level, and PAW Gold is head'n'shoulders above it (... and not just a little bit). Sound comparison only, and based on my heavily subjective opinion. And to be honest, this level of head'n'shoulders will vary depending on which headphones you are using. Plus, revealing nature of PAW Gold can play against it. Btw, there is a stick BASS dsp preset in there
@twister6 Wonderful review! Love reading about all these high end products, and really like the way this one looks. I much prefer a slew of buttons vs. a touch scree, but I'm a little old school that way.
@Hawaiibadboy : sorry, auto-correct typo of sick vs stick But regardless, there is Parametric EQ preset called "Full BASS", but unfortunately I can't edit or see the setting of that preset to give you more info. I know you are big into BASS and EQ settings to bring the best of it. Since you are in Japan, maybe you can swing by some local audio place to take a listen? I'm sure, by your definition it will be a child's play, but I thought it was quite powerful.
Excellent review. You covered everything and I think that you got it right. I love this DAP too.
Regarding the aggressiveness of elevated treble with some headphones, do give a try to my LOTOO EQ setting. I think that the issue is just re-balancing the mids and treble.
Great review! I like how you say it pairs great with the PM3s which are one of my favorite headphones but, unless i win the lottery I do not see myself getting this.
Great review! The LPG certainly shares the very top spot, along with LP5G, L5P, AK380, in terms of sound quality. It's amazing this little device has such drive and control with full-size cans while keeping a very respectable battery life.
sound-wise it may be great, but it is a badly designed product in my opinion. too big for no reason. no usb charging. can't operate when screen is off. screen? meh..ui? so-so..at this proce point there are far better designed dap that sound equally good (or better).
