"Starting with the bass, it hits decently well for an open back and while it lacks true impact/slam, I find it very good when compared to other open back designs."
On better fitting amp(tubes) this thing is one of the hardest slamming headphones you can buy, dynamics are through the roof and you won't get any sybillance, I own an HE500 and got a loaner HE6 to test on an XA25.
I believe it! I unfortunately don’t do many full size reviews anymore so I don’t have a tube amp or anything on hand anymore. I remember it paired well with the Xduoo TA-26 and some good old tubes I had on hand when I did that review.
I personally think the Atrium is a bit overhyped, & overrated. It doesn't sound that great to me when I compared it with an HD800S, LCD 5, & Sundara. For some songs I find the Sundara performed, and sounded JUST like the Atrium, that suprised me so much. HD 800s is even closer, but depth wise Atrium is 10% better. LCD 5 with a powerful setup is on another level when compared to the Atrium, more depths, better detail, clean bass, better resolve & imaging!
I think it's worth it's price because of the built quality, but if you only care about sound quality then I think there are cheaper options that do just as good, or even better!
Gears I AB'ed them with: Jotunheim, Bifrost/Valhalla, Folkvangr/Gungnir, Ragnarok
