The Fiio Q1 MK II has better THD+N and a better dynamic range at half the price, the nano has a better amp but i don't really need it and can get an A5 separately. I also hope Ifi releases the frequency response of the nano.

But does the Fiio Q1 do MQA?

@theaudiologist ... could you clarify if the figures you gave for the FiiO Q1 are for the Mk 1 or the new Mk 2 ?

to hell with MQA

So funny, I'm subscribed to two threads here that are discussing MQA.

One is someone talking about how it sounds better than FLAC rips, the other is saying it's all smoke.

Personally I think it sounds great, but the smoke arguments are relatively convincing.

I guess I'll probably just enjoy it and not stop because of the people saying it's a scam.

Buy everyone should probably listen for themselves and decide.

I would also like to know if it is rendering or full decoding especially since it is apparently still beta.

Heh, no MQA no sale for me. MQA sounds great and I would love to see more of it.
I sent iFi an e-mail asking if it is a renderer or does the full unfold as my Meridian 2 does.

tried it for around 2 hrs at stereo today.
its good but its no mojo killer.
I think that it could have done with a gain switch instead of the filter switch. it can be too powerful for sensitive iems. has channel imbalance at low volume.
the sound is pretty energetic and spacious but i feel it can lack some low end on certain tracks where i expected more thump.
what kills it for me is the less common connector for charging and connection.\
would still buy for use with headphones

Considering its $199 and the Mojo is $499 nobody should expect it to be. Plus the Mojo has colored marbles. :)

what advantages does MQA have anyway?

That is a whole other subject that has been beat to death many times. if you don't know then why make a gratuitous post in the first place.

Yes... please no discussion about MQA sound in this thread... except to the extent that the nano iDSD Black Label has it. In the future we could compare nano iDSD MQA to other MQA devices.

I'm not saying you should like MQA. Or that anyone should.

But I don't see the harm in giving it a listen and deciding if you like it.

That's not a crazy idea, right?

I was just saying that i don't really care if a dac has mqa or not, since it is for streaming (i think) and I don't stream. if someone else likes it, good for them. i just want to see how it sounds.

:
i have a feeling MQA will just be another way of selling you the same recordings over and over again: LP, remastered LP, 8-Track, SACD, 24-bit, DSD Remaster, and now MQA.
