Does the MDR700 have a line out? I understand that the 900 has one that is through the software (ie. you change a setting but use the same jack as for headphones). Does the 700 have something similar? If not, has anyone tried the 700 with a TA or other amp? How's the sound through the amp? How about anyone with a 900?

Also, has anyone made any recordings using the 700 using a microphone? How do they sound? Voice? Live music? I am asking specifically because there is NOT a mic sensitivity option on the 700 and there is on the 900. Anyone with a 900 care to comment?

Thanks in advance.

I have the R700, but have never done any serious live recording....sorry.

I can say, for sure, that the R700 does not have a line-out - the manual directs the user to put the volume at max. to achieve a "line-out" signal. Unless you are using inefficient cans, like Senn. 495s, the "line-out" on the R700 serves no purpouse.

the "line-out" works....yes.....and with an amp, it is louder.

But unless you're using inefficient cans...the more solid bass and slightly clearer highs are almost unnoticeable.

perhaps a true line-out would make a more appreciable difference with an amp when compared to just the can jack....

The 900 has a line out setting, done through the menu. It is a bit of a pain, however, because if the unit is powered down, the setting automatically reverts to headphone and you hve to flip through the menu to reset line out.
I just got my new R909, and am told that one does not automatically switch back.
