The Beatles, Bowie, T Rex, Sam Cooke, and Portugal. The Man.

"Creep in t-shirt I don't screw* care", keeps growing on me.  Itunes has a free podcast download of a KEXP live performance.  The versions of some of the songs are less processed than their studio versions and some are a bit longer.  Sound quality is darn decent too.  They also have some podcasts of interviews with the band which are interesting.  My takeaway is that they band members are really laid back and cool.  Would like to hear them live.

Portugal. The Man was asked to write the soundtrack for Red Bull's "Mission to the Edge of Space" documentary about Felix Baumgartner's space jump. The documentary debuts today on Rdio.

Here's a shot interview about penning the song:

And here's the Rdio link to watch:

Oh Boy, the song, sounds epic from what I've heard so far. (But I don't have an Rdio account so I only got the 30 second clip)

Hey Mike I can't thank you enough for the article you wrote back in August. I had never heard of them. . I down loaded Evil Friends from HD tracks and it blew me away from the first song. I got their other CDs but Evil Friends is my favorite. It's the best new album I've heard in twenty years. Since August I haven't played two albums without going back to EFs. The sound is orgasmic ecstasy. Once again THANK YOU for writing that article.
Do you know how they got their name?
When is their next album due?
Thank thanks thanks
Dex

Portugal. The Man has a huge following in my area thanks to one of our local radio stations. They're a great band that I highly suggest people check out if they're looking for something new to listen to.

I really love their In The Mountain In the Clouds. I have Evil Friends and the one before the former, but I haven't really gotten into Evil Friends yet, but the set you posted was more convincing!

I'm not sure if I can put them up with Bowie et al but I agree it's great music. :)

I have been a fan for a few years. Good to see some love for these guys in a more refined circle :)

They make some pretty wild videos as well. The one for Sleep Forever is a bit long but the ending is great.
