MetehanMinatozaki

New Head-Fier
Bad try.
Pros: -Good bass amount.
-Really good build quality for price.
Cons: -Bad soundstage
-Horrible dynamics
-Non existent air region
-Bad resolution
-A senseless iem
Disclaimers

I bought this iem with my own money. This review is completely subjective.

Accessories

Classic kz presantation. Nothing to talk about.

Build

Solid and good build quality for price. It has a metal faceplate. Thumbs up for that.

Sound-Tonality and Technicalities

Honestly, it's the worst iem i have listened in my life. No air region, No dynamics, lowest resolution ever, just.... Bass is ok. Have good mid bass and sub bass amount and have a big nothing. I just don't want to talk about midrange, sound stage and imaging becuase it's just bad and unlistenable.

graph (1).png

Conclusion

Just... don't buy that. get a edx pro x or edx lite and enjoy your life :D You have lots of choices in this price range.

Hi there, before I even begin this review, first let me apologize for my weird English and grammatical mistakes.
The KZ EDXS is sent directly from KZ in exchange for my honest opinion.

Just in case you're interested on getting the EDXS, you can get it from the link bellow :
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oC7icoP
Lets start with the Unboxing
1685584216833.jpg1685584216825.jpg1685584216808.jpg1685584216799.jpg1685584216790.jpg1685584216765.jpg

Inside the box you get :
  • IEM
  • Cable
  • User Guide - Warranty Card
  • Eartips

Build quality of the IEM itself is pretty nice for a $11USD set
1685584216782.jpg
the faceplate I believe made from steel and the back is from transparent plastic, you can see the internal of the IEM itself.
The faceplate has a unique angular design to it.

as for the cable, its your typical KZ budget cable, nothing special, it works.

Fitting and Comfort
1685928989078.jpg
is pretty good, I can wear the EDXS for long session without any issues using both stock cable and eartips.

Now lets talk about the Sound
Sound part is tested using my Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G smartphone and iFi Go Blu, stock cable, stock eartips
Music is mostly from Apple Music (J-POP, J-Rock, EDM, Jazz, Metal)

Tonality in general, the EDXS is fun, a bit bright, bassy and has a sparkly lower treble

BASS : is rumbly, have decent punch and weight, it is also boosted, the bass quantity probably can be used for basshead individuals. Tested on Little Red Riding Hood - Wednesday Campanella, the bass is fun, punchy, rumbly at the same time, though for metal track such as the one from Trivium, Its useable though in my opinion not optimal.

Mids : rather forward, also has some sibilance problem on some vocals, probably effect from the lower treble tuning, though it has proper note weight, not too thin nor too thick.

Treble : is sparkly, has boost on the lower part of the treble, probably to boost the sense of clarity but I think KZ boost it a little too much, it makes sibilance sounds a bit sharp, if you're a treble sensitive person, this IEM probably not for you.

Technicalities

Stage :
decent, probably above average in terms of width and depth, though the shape is not symmetrical, more like an oval shaped, it has more spacious width compared to its depth.

Detail Retrieval : for the ultra budget categories, the EDXS is decent

Imaging - Positioning - Separation :

Imaging is average
, to be completely honest with you, it sounds 2D (like other ultra budget categories IEM, not only EDXS).
Positioning is decent, you can clearly hear the left and right panning from which direction the sound source is.
Separation is just average, on complex track such as Cage - NZK, it sounds a bit jumbled up together.

I won't do any Comparison in this review, because there are too many IEMs in the ultra budget categories, if you wanted some comparison to the EDXS, just ask in the comment section of this review.

Conclusion
the KZ EDXS on its ultra budget categories is a decent choice for its price, it has a fun and dynamic sound and good design and build quality.

If you're still wondering / contemplating to get the EDXS, let me help you my friend.

the KZ EDXS is RECOMMENDED if :
  • You have a tight budget
  • You want a fun and dynamic sounding IEM
  • You want a good looking IEM
the KZ EDXS is NOT so RECOMMENDED if :
  • You're a treble sensitive person
that's all from me for now, I'll probably edit this later to fix my weird English and add YouTube Video Review

Sound Impression :

Overall Tonality and Timbre
– This is a bright Energetic and Dynamic, Good Weight Tone, Good Clarity and fun musical set.

Bass – Can hear and feel Low sub bass rumble for sure, mid bass is textured, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise. Very Enjoyable, Bass Head qualified set.

Mids – Female and Male vocals are organic natural and forward sounding with good weight tone and clarity. Not much mid bass bleed or muddiness, well tuned on that aspect.

Treble - Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have adequate micro details. Sensitive ears might have slight sibilance on 5K.

Soundstage is average in width, depth and height. Fit and isolation is pretty good.

All testing are done using the stock tips and cable.

KZ EDXS [USD11] Comparison to

KZ D-Fi with switch [USD27] – KZ EDXS have better low sub bass rumble, which can be heard and felt in ears, more enjoyable and fulfilling for Bass Head standard.

Tripowin TC01 [USD49] – TC01 have more mid bass but in terms of low sub bass rumble, EDXS is indeed more enjoyable and fulling in audible senses.

Reecho SG03 [USD69] – SG03 have more low sub bass and is still my favourite budget low sub bass monster, EDXS comes very close to it, tick the box for the low sub bass performance.

Final Thoughts

All 4 sets have bright sound signature. In terms of bass response, it will depend on individual, the quantity amount of low sub bass and mid bass level, which listener appreciate more. Mid vocals are good on all 4 sets, clean clear sounding without much bleeding and muddiness. Treble extension quite similar on the 3 sets, except KZ D-Fi which has switch option if required.

The KZ EDXS has become one of my favourite versatile single dynamic driver set, in terms of overall tuning, on their recent releases, to date.

I really appreciate you reviewing and even more importantly, measuring this IEM….but man. that graph is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. Dude that is a 15 decibel speak at 5khz. this is beyond embarrassing for KZ especially after such good releases like the ZVX and D-Fi.

Shame on you KZ. this kind of defective tuning is not acceptable at any price point
