Same. For me it was the fall of 2012 and I bought the HD 800. Like you. I still have it. 😉 12 years-old….and counting. The HD 800 is my longest serving piece of HIFI equipment. I don’t think I’ll ever sell it.- nephilim32

New York City CanJam would be highly doable. I’d really like to go next year and of course I know Zach really takes the time to set up some great booths. His show areas/rooms look amazing. I’m really glad to hear that the chances you’ve taken with ZMF have been successful. Buying blind can be a...- nephilim32

Yeah It is about 90% on the dial. 🥰, but I find it is quite necessary. The stock tuning on the XC needs a lot of help if you will. Most aspects of the bass are completely non existent. The Loki fixes that very very well because it is a broadband equalizer. And thank you so much for your...- nephilim32

I know there has been some talk about Closed-back headphones lately on here and I gotta say I think the LCD XC (when EQ’d) is a really exceptional headphone. Its technical performance is quite incredible, but the biggest drawback maybe for many is that you really do have to EQ them. I wondered...- nephilim32

I know. Lol someone said that to me before. It looks like a salesmen rack or being at a vintage HIFI store. It is a little over 5 ft long. 🙃 One day I may change it. I know it looks a little dated. ✌️- nephilim32

Yes. Pre amping properly is magic. Definitely no joke. I recently got a Schiit Kara Pre Amp and I love the hell out of that thing. It has really integrated nicely into my main system and given new life to some of my other existing amplifiers. Insane value for money the Kara is. I can easily...- nephilim32

Returned to the Stock pads on my D-8000 (F-type pads) from the H-type pads. It has been almost a year since I last used the F-type pads and I gotta say the F-pads are rekindling some unique magic of what I feel makes the D-8000 sound unique. Biggest thing is bass impact and extension while...- nephilim32

Oh my goodness, my friend. With an amp like that the world of headphones is now your oyster. Shuck away my good man…shuck away. 🤩 Unbelievable buy. So now you have both the WA22 and 33. Be a very interesting comparison cause they are different sounding. Big news! Big beans indeed! 🙌🏿- nephilim32

My pleasure, friend. Really couldn’t be much happier in this hobby of ours. Anyhow. I’d love to hear about your findings. The Qutest and the Kara are actually a nice match with one another I find. 😌- nephilim32

The biggest improvement with the Kara for me is total system integration, the introduction to a quality solid state amp sound. Acting strictly as a pre amp it does best my woo audio WA22 pre amping abilities. Distortion is lower and the Kara is cleaner and more powerful. The 4X gain optionis...- nephilim32

Yeah I’m with you. I’ve been so happy lately. I’m really starting to chill out and not analyze things too much when listening to music. The Kara has a clean sound signature. The headphone out is very decent, but I absolutely adore its pre amping capabilities. It is so complementary to other...- nephilim32

Wrong. You have an incredible chain to go with it. Nice is how you would describe mittens. 😂 Your chain is a monster. You would get every last bit of performance from something like a DZ. That would be a great pickup. You got my vote.- nephilim32

Schiit Kara - Impressions Thread
So I’ve been enjoying the Kara pre amping my WA22. The 1X gain setting is terrific with the WA22 while using my planar magnetic headphone, the D-8000. The DAC I use the most is the Chord Qutest and I set that to 3V RMS. The sound is incredible. The Kara has really elevated my system nicely...- nephilim32

Always nice to know I’m not alone or made to feel like some strange, eccentric man. Lol. I’ve got 3 headphone amplifiers at the moment and they all sound very different from one another. Final Audio D8000 Planar Magnetic Headphone
I assure you my friend. It is not difficult. The H pads are actually the easiest to install because of their thicker and denser material. They also don’t have that hard outer ring to support the seal/positioning like both the G and F pads. H pads offer a nice alternative tuning. I think you’ll...- nephilim32

Well I got the day off today from work so…. Swapped out the “H” Pads finally and returned to the “F” pads for a delightful and extended listening time. Main characteristics for the “F” pads is that they highlight what makes the D-8000 sound unique. The F pads give more thump and slam in the...- nephilim32

You know guys. I’m gonna take off the H-Pads and put on the originals. It has been over a year since I put them on. I’m also gonna leave the original pads on for 1 week to further my impressions more accurately. They made the “F” type pads for a reason and I now want to refresh my memory as to...- nephilim32

Precisely how I feel. The D8K I will never sell. It is a permanent fixture in my headphone world. Any headphone I buy next will be complementary to it. I have no expectations of another headphone to beat it in every regard. I think that is unrealistic.- nephilim32

Oh I know my friend. They are easy to put on. I have no problem with it and I’ve spared no expense. I have all the pads for the original D8K. It is my favorite headphone, my friend. I certainly can understand why the company is called Final Audio. Lol. Best flagship I’ve ever owned.- nephilim32

Very cool impressions. For me the biggest difference between the pro and the original D8K is width and depth. The D8K pro is wider sounding. The OG has more depth. Bass is tighter on the pro. OG has more thump and impact though. Amazing trade offs and I can see why people such as yourself...- nephilim32
