New Head-Fier
Okay headphone with some caveats
Pros: - Good midbass amount
- Quite detailed treble
- Comfortable to wear
Cons: - Sub-bass drop off
- Upper-mid/lower treble is a bit hot
- Bass is a bit loose
This headphone has a M-shaped frequency response, with mid-bass and lower-treble most emphasized. Tone is just a bit warm but not as warm as HD650. In terms of resolving, imo it is slightly better than HD650, probably on par with LCD3, but worse than Beyer T1 and HE6. Vocals are good but not forward, especially male vocals (may be a pro or con depending on your preference). The foams provided muffle the sound so my impression is based on vanilla (no foam)

An airy, detailed pair of headphones
Pros: Good details, especially in the mid and upper-mid
Fast bass response, feels extremely snappy when the music calls for it
Good soundstage and seperation
Comfortable big earcups (maybe too big for some)
Cons: Mid can sound a bit thin and dry in certain songs
Not very dynamic, which makes the music sometimes feel flat and lifeless
Earcups can NOT swivel at all, so for some with wide, big faces, the headphone can feel very uncomfortable
Build quality is below Beyers, Senn and Audeze
The cable is ugly
This headphone is a little bit bright with elevated upper-mid (less bright than HD800). Soundstage is good (i think it is about as good as as DT880's).

This headphone is relatively easy going, i think what it excels the most at is being quite detailed and fast without getting fatiguing or too analytical (unlike HD800).

This headphone is not the best for rock, pop or bass-heavy music though.

A bright headphone with huge soundstage
Pros: Big soundstage (soundstage may be too spread out)
Upper mid to lower treble (4-5Khz) is very prominent and detailed
Comfort is good
Looks unique and recognizable
Cons: Almost no sub-bass
Mid is a bit thin and dry, not great for vocal-centric music
Sibilant: violon, cymbal and female voice may sound grating
Not great for rock and bass-reliant music
I think this headphone pairs better with an OTL tube amp (in my case, Xduuo TA-26) than a SS amp (Schiit Ragnarok 2). When plugged in Rag 2, it sounds thin, too bright and lacks bass. TA-26 makes it sound more lively and tames the prominent upper-mid spike (around 4-5Khz) a bit.
I think another problem with the HD800 is that there is also a bit of ringing in that frequency too, further accentuating that upper-mid spike, so it can become very tiring after listening to violin or cymbal after a while.

Sweet and thick sounding pair of headphones (Fazor 2019 version)
Pros: Very good instrument seperation
Very good bass, which is fast and detailed enough and very abundant in quantity
Ideal for people who prefer their music a bit warm and dark (think HD650)
Never sounds harsh, fatigueing or shrilling
Very good timbre, which makes the sound very life-like
High build quality and the wood looks beautiful
Cons: Heavy, not comfortable at all after wearing for a over 1 hour. Clamping force is pretty noticeable on a new pair, however this clamp force is as time goes on
LCD3 may sound too dark, warm and/or thick
Upper-mid and treble is recessed and not very detailed (this headphone is the contrarian to Beyerdynamic headphones or Sennheiser HD800)
Not good for jazz and classical
If you like your music sound life-like, sweet and warm, this pair of HPs is a no brainer

Not really pros or cons:
- Intimate soundstage (think HD650)
- Will not pair well with OTL tube amp. A powerful SS amp would help LCD3 reach its full potential
- Very good for rock, pop and bass-focused music, good for acoustic music and not good for jazz and classical

I would say LC3 is NOT an one-size-fits-all headphone. So try to demo before purchase. Compared to the HD650, LCD3 is less vocal-centric but imo superior in most other aspects

For bass lovers (may need EQing)
Pros: - Huge quantity of bass (a plus for bass lovers)
- Pretty comfortable compared to LCD2 or LCD3, can be worn over a long time easily
- Not that hard to drive, an entry desktop amp or a portable amp can drive LCD2 sufficiently
- Metal build, no wood ring -> unlikely to break over years
Cons: - A bit too dark and dull for me (darker and slower than LCD3)
- Timbre is not great. Instruments do NOT sound very realistic (much less life-like than LCD3)
- Bass can sometimes be too slow and a bit muddy
- Mid is not bad but not very detailed either
- Treble is rolled off (more than HD650 imo)
With EQing, maybe this headphone may work well. I personally prefer not to use EQ so I had to let LCD2C go..

LCD2C is not great for classical, jazz, folk and acoustic music in general but good for genres that require big bass (think EDM, some types of rock, pop, etc.)

A bright can that wears a bit uncomfortable
Pros: Quick response
Very resolving in upper mid - treble region
Low distortion
Fast, tight, accurate bass
Cons: Uncomfortable, shallow pads make my ears touch the inner sides of the cups
Creaky and tight headband
My ears get hot after a while
Peaky upper mids: saxo, violon and female vocals may sound too piercing and fatiguing at times. This also leads to a somewhat odd tonal balance
Bass can be lacking in quantity to some
Imo these headphones can be rated 2-4 stars due to personal taste. If you enjoy bright, energetic headphones, these can be 5. If you prefer warm, smooth sound these can be 2-3 stars.
Comfortability is a huge negative for me

Used to be okay headphones 5-7 years ago but overshadowed now by newer headphones
Pros: Comfortability
Good for female vocals
Guitar and violon sound good, pretty realistic
Relatively easy to drive
Non-fatiguing sound
Cons: Slow, can not play fast music well
Poor instrument separation, can sound congested at times
No sub-bass
Mid-bass bloom makes low end sound muddy
Mid is a bit grainy
Treb is rolled off
May get boring during a long listening session
Imo this headphone is outclassed by Hifiman he400i, DT880 and many more similar priced headphones

I have the HD 6XX. It definitely sounds more open and has more bass, but in no way does it come anywhere near to the build quality of the HD 598 Not even close

When it's matched up to a good source, it sounds good

Sennheiser HD 598 will never be a bad sounding headphone, and I can disagree about it being boring. Without any source it does sound boring, but I know that it doesn't sound boring with my TR-Amp

I think hd598 would work best with an OTL tube amp to add more dynamic to the music and more oomph in the bass

Hd6xx blows 598 out of the water imo. Cleaner, less grainy mid. Stronger, more defined bass (still almost no sub-bass). Less muted treble. 6xx has smaller soundstage though
