I have on loan from The Cable Company the Carbon Nighthawks (w/pleather pads). After some tube rolling in my MicroZotl I have found I love these cans. But they are $699, so I grabbed a demo pair of wood (original) versions from Music Direct today for $259. How close can I get to the sound I have been listening to if I buy the pleather pads and/or upgrade the cables to the newer ones (stock with Carbon)? I assume the ones I am getting will have the hybrid pads and older stock cable. Thx

P.S. Best place to buy the pleather pads and cable? Headphones.com has the pads? Newegg may have both? Music Direct had neither. And neither does The Cable Company (where I have almost $200 in credits by now).
