What would the best alternative be to the DT 770 Pro 80's with the same comfort and slightly less bass under $200?
Takstar Pro 80 (Gemini HSR-1000), 60-Ohm,$70- $90.
"Made in China" knock off of the DT770s
Wouldn't that be a down grade? Not too big on knock offs.
I had been assuming you did not have the DT770 80-Ohm, but were just looking at all the alternative possibilities.
Ah, I just got them a couple days ago but I'm ready to return them.
So I'm sitting here using my DT770 Pro 80-Ohm (Tom Tom Club), connected to an O2 amplifier, which is using the DAC on my Essence STX.
I'm finding the sound just fine (for me).
What headphones were you using before the DT770s?
Do you know the DAC chip used in the MBox 2?
Do you know the impedance of the headphone output jack?
Have you contacted the manufacturer and find out the recommended Ohm range for headphones?
(maybe see if they will also tell you the DAC chip used and the impedance of the headphone output jack)
Switched over to the DT770 Pro 250-Ohm, does have slightly less bass then the 80-Ohm.
I was using Panasonic HTF600 with Beyerdynamic Velour Pads. (I find these more comfortable since they don't clamp as tight but I did get used to the DT 770's)
Forgive me since I don't know much about specs and what they actually do but I found a link for the MBox 2 with all the info http://www.zzounds.com/item--DGDMB2
I also have a FiiO E10 which I will probably return because I only want to use 1 device which is my MBox 2 since I have my studio monitors hooked up to those as well.
Have you tried using the E10 with the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm headphones or just used the Mbox 2?
See if the E10 changes the sound much for the DT770s?
Are you fine with the treble of the dt770 80s? If so perhaps the 250 or 600 ohm mentioned above or even 990s might satisfy you. Another thing to keep in mind is that Beyer has their "house sound" that may not be for everyone.
