Yeah...they're semi-open...beyer's version of semi-pregnant I guess?

I'm hoping that they are the closed version personally.

That would be great if the new Tesla is a closed can.

The whole "semi-open" thing is a joke.  They are open.  There is open, and there is closed.  The T1 are open.

Hey no! They are just semi-open. With a bit of malice one could also argue that it represents the worst of both worlds: no isolation to speak of and nevertheless inner reflections.

Open headphones are those trying to minimize reflections with the goal to preserve the original signal as pure as possible, without mixing rear sound waves to it.

There's even an undamped plastic plate behind the Tesla driver.

If the new model is the open version, I may be interested.

I agree in general. They should mention how many db they isolate rather then anything. That the T1 is semi open is a much smaller lie than that the wood Denons are closed though. I do feel that they do isolate a bit more then the K701 and 435S. Not much but it´s very welcome when using it with my computer.

One more week and I may be able to mate it with my Auditor :)

For clarity's sake...

  1. There are closed back, sealed headphones.

  1. Closed back, vented headphones

  1. Open back, relatively undamped headphones

  1. Open back, heavily damped headphones

For 600ohm headphones, it seems people generally recommend tube amps.  Would a solid state amp like my Ultra Desktop drive these to their fullest?  It outputs 1/2watt per channel apparently if that helps.....

Are you sure it will deliver 1/2 watt into a 600 ohm load?

True. The question though is whether the damping on the open backs is for sonic qualities (like the minor damping on my DT880/600s to reduce treble) or for isolation. The DT880s do not isolate in any meaningful way. I take it from Skylab's comments that the T1s are similar in this regard.

Yeah the question is into what load, but anyway a few milliwatts should do.

I don't foresee you having any issues driving a T1 with the Ultra Desktop.  I will admit to not ever owning one, though I did have an Ultra Micro, and even that little amp had more than enough juice to power HD650s, K701s, etc. on the lowest gain setting.  As for the solid state + T1 combo, I couldn't be any happier with the sound I'm getting from my setup, and I don't see any reason not to recommend a quality solid state amplifier for these headphones.
