Given that the hd595 is 'the same headphone as hd555, only better'

- can it (the 595) be equalized to sound just like the 555 ? That is, softer and more laid back highs, calmer mids and perhaps a little more bass ?

I'd appreciate opinions based on real life experiences. And don't worry, I'm not going to listen to it only that way

Thanks.

Why dont you try that and tell us what you think.

But yea, the HD555 and 595 uses different drivers so they can never be exactly the same. That is why most people on head-fi have more than 1 pair of headphones so they can enjoy their music in different sound signatures!

Why the heck would you want to make the 595 sound like a 555???

Hahaha, why dont you just get some $30 headphones, pretty sure that will do the job.

So you have no idea what you're talking about, or what I'm talking about, but hell, talking is free, just like... well you know

Some things are harder to understand for those that only look at model numbers...
If anybody did have both of these phones and experimented with them (and an eq) I'd like to hear his thoughts.

If you want it to sound like the HD555, why not just buy the HD555.
If you are going to EQ it, just EQ to what sounds best. There's no reason to be trying specifically to achieve the HD555 sound.

Well, leave the reason part to me

I am asking about the feasibility, not the opportunity.
FYI the 595s are headphones which excell with certain types of musical material (acoustical, voice, rock) but are a tad short of being right for others (electronica). They would be much more compatible with these it they sounded more like... you guessed it, the 555

You should just experiment with EQing.
You can also try adding a ~70ohm adapter into the chain (provided that you have the 50ohm HD595). The adapter tones down the treble and upper mids and boosts the bass a bit.

The frequecy response curve is only a minor part of the sound signature of headphones.
So much I do know.
What I don't know is why I actually still try to give you an answer after your kind remarks.

I dont own the HD555, but i do have the HD595 and have heard the HD555 in a Sennheiser store. They sound nothing alike. And i doubt you can achieve what you're looking for. They lack the details that HD595 has. Maybe you can add a piece of cloth in the HD595 housing to muffle the sound?
