Can you handle the Beast! Introducing the iDSD Diablo 2!!

I can see the green potiometer, is there any plan to use a step attenuator in future design.

The green alps is known for channel imbalance at low volumes.
If they hand pick the best ones, it shouldn't be an issue. The rejection rate is like 40-50% for perfection. They're doing this on the iDSD Signature Finale which I saw for like $500 online!

And this ladies and gentleman is the million dollar question, if this device is a solid 1w of power in real terms I'd be happy, that is a lot of power on the go, I just don't like it being pitched as something it's not, fingers crossed this is closer to it's rated specs.
It's more than 1W for sure. And it's likely high biased into Class A requiring volume knob at 3 O'clock to switch into class B. At least that's how the Signature worked.

Congrats on the launch! Hoping one appears magically at CanJam Dallas 🙏🙏🙏 I've got a 2k ohm set of HD 414's I want to try with it (and the usual suspects, too).

Price is way too high especially after reading all of Mr. Loeschs’ thoughts regarding his original designs.

Waiting on actual output specs and would highly suggest others to do so as well.

I’m digging the design though and I’m sure it sounds as good as it looks. Finally moving away from that male USB A too!

How does the input over 4.4mm work, it says unbalanced in. Is a specific cable required with a certain pinout to get that working?

iFi or ddhifi 4.4mm male to 3.5mm female, I have used this with original Diablo without any problems and to good effect.

Does running it off the DC adapter still charge the battery, or is the battery only charged through the dedicated USB-C port? Is it able to function with a fully dead battery?

edit: The DC power adapter in the accessories image looks like a barrel plug but the manual (https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/iDSD-Diablo-2-manual_Ver0.0.13.pdf) seems to suggest the only way to charge is with USB-C?

Also from the manual:
iDSD Diablo 2 will continue to use battery power even if the USB-C (5V) cable is connected afterwards.
Sounds like it always uses the battery directly even when plugged in, and doesn't have a way to disable charging. RIP battery if used as a desktop unit :frowning2:

The description is misleading indeed. It always runs on battery even when the charging cable is connected.

That is contrary to what the designer of the original Diablo indicates how the original Diablo works.

Seems odd that they would remove a very useful feature from the “updated” version.

Interesting machine.

It has picked up many of the interesting features of the Gryphon, which make it quite flexible.

The design is also to my taste.

Can you tell me if it supports MQA via optical/spdif input (like the Gryphon)?
I am told that indeed it does have this ability!

Thanks for asking.

Cheers!!

Please let us know what you find out. Would be interesting if this can run directly off mains power. I think most (all?) of the iDSD series stop charging after 80% while on to protect the battery. My gryphon actually never seems to charge above 80% even when off.

The iPower for the Diablo comes with a barrel to USBc adapter to charge through that port.

if they're going to call it the Diablo 2, they'd better have "Stay a while, and listen" stamped on the bottom of it
