am I going to be able to buy tickets for a friend at the show that I added last minute?
Cash payments are accepted at the door, credit card payments can only be made online. If you're planning to pay with card you may want to order a pass before arriving to get the most time on the show floor.

Online tickets can be purchased here: https://canjamglobal.com/shows/socal2023/

As someone going to one for the first time, can I ask what the etiquette is for trying IEMs? Do I bring my own tips and audio source?
Always bring your source so you know how it would sound with equipment you have. Tips, many will provide new tips or clean with alcohol wipes. you can bring your own wipes too.

First timer here: Is it weird to bring my own headphones to try out dacs/amps? If so, which terminations are best?
There is no such thing as weird here 🙃🙂

At our booth we don't mind if you want to try different combos, just check with us before disconnecting. You'll run into every connector type tbh, but a lot of 1/4”, 1/8", and 4.4mm balanced

Is anyone walking (or has already walked) from John Wayne Airport to the hotel? Is it possible? Or, is it better to grab a cab, uber, shuttle? I know it might rain, but I'll bring my umbrella.

There should be a shuttle from the hotel but I have never taken it from the airport to the hotel, I have taken it from the hotel to the airport.

Yup, I know about the shuttle, but I fly in at 7:30 AM tomorrow, so I rather than rushing to the hotel, just to twiddle my thumbs for 2 hours, I figured I'd walk.

You can do this. Did it this morning. Easy walk, a little over half a mile.

Just thought of something to add before providing this guidance: walking even a half-mile with any semblance of "typical luggage" might make a difference. I'm a long-time business traveler who's developed ninja-like packing skills so I carry very little with me, so YMMV based on that. But otherwise, it's a very easy walk especially on nice weather days. I've walked to Marriott Irvine from John Wayne for the last few years in fact. After sitting in a cramped airport seat for several hours, I truly don't mind stretching my legs and doing the walk. Hope that clarifies.
