Cayin N6ii, Unlimited Possibilities: a fully modularized smart DAP

Will these boards possibly be off use in future cayin daps? I’m asking as I have all the boards!

Sorry, can't discuss future product, but we did say in the R01 announcement that the "R01 is the final Audio Motherboard in N6ii family. However we are working on a new product to continue the Audio Motherboard concept. It is something completely new to Cayin so probably will take some time before we can deliver it to the market." So the Audio motherboard will be given another chance later, and when we said "take some time", that means unlikely in 2021. so please be patient with us.

With the exception of the Ti N6ii being made of a different chassis, will there be different accessories or anything like that given it’s limited nature?

Even the leather case we announce last month is compatible, so all associated accessories will work fine.

@Andykong will the Ti chassis have a noticeable sound differences versus a regular N6ii whilst using the same motherboards? This was the case with the iBasso DX200 Ti versus non-Ti version.

I have covered this question in the N6ii-Ti announcement:
  1. Will N6ii-Ti and N6ii sound different? Probably will, because the grounding and EMI shielding are different, but the different should be minimal and we'll leave the final judgement to users.

I’m using the Cayin music app on the N6ii and playing files from an SD card. I can see the button for shuffle but I want to ensure that the music keeps playing over and over without stopping. I can’t see how to do this. Can anyone help and tell or show me what to do?

Not sure if I understand your question correctly. Do you mean you want to repeat all the music files in a folder? or you want to shuffle (playback randomly) all the songs in your library?

Just when we thought the music player scene is a little lacklustre, Cayin decides to show-hand their ultimate expression of the N6ii series.

Was considering writing off the N6ii series (not a fan of modular concept although i can understand its appeal), but this Ti edition is intriguing.
Am now wondering if Cayin has a successor player, non-modular, running this latest R2R architecture in future, else may probably jump on this one.

Its logical to assume that when we put an end to N6ii development (confirmed R01 as the final Audio Motherboard), we'll be working or going to work out something down the road. So successor player? logically yes. modular based or non-modular based? Sorry, can't discuss future product.

@Andykong Do you have any info on whether the noise floor of the R01 will be more similar to A01 or E01/2 (or higher) with sensitive IEMs?

On paper, R01 noise floor will be higher then previous audio motherboard, but there is one major different that can change the situation. In our previous Audio Motherboard, the noise level remain the same across all volume setting, but with R01, the noise level will change in direct proportion of volume level, so when you turn up the volume, the noise will increase, but when you listen at low volume, the noise will very low. This make it difficult to compare the noise level of R01 against other motherboard directly, we need to wait for user/reviewer feedback on different mix and match combinations.

I’d be interested to know what the battery life is like running the R01. I must say though that I am intrigued by what R2R may offer.

In past experience, our battery duration numbers are repeatable by users, so they are fairly reliable. In practical use, screen time will affect the duration, so deduct 10% if you only use the screen infrequently, and deduct 20% if you keep the screen on for fairly long time.

Nah... just wanted to know what they are made/finished of/in. As the R01 on its own - in Black- is already over $600 the Ti unit seems a bit of a bargain compared anyway. And yes.... it would be nice if they were solid Gold! 😃

They are 24K Gold plated Brass. Not that we can afford that in our BOM, but solid Gold is too soft for that kind of job .......

@Andykong is on a roll today, answering all these questions.
Keep up the good work, only few manufacturers can keep up with the forum presence you provide for Cayin.

I was joking of course, hoping the buttons and dial could be solid Gold.... but appreciate the thought process not in your BOM and that brass and gold plating is the most fitting for the purposes. Looks great!

Thanks Andy. It was to repeat all music files in a folder. But I have found it now it was ‘loop list’.
