OK, I recently started a thread about the poor recording quality associated with the new Dave Matthews Band album Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King. So far 100% of the feedback agrees with my rather primitive assessment. Well, my experience with this new Elvis Costello album is completely opposite. It is beautifully mastered by none other than T-Boone Burnett. He has won many awards for his expertise including O Brother Where Art Thou, as well as last year's Raising Sand with Alison Kraus and Robert Plant.
The Costello album is not "hot" at all. Instrument separation is excellent. Bass extends very low, is sharp, and very very tight. The cymbals on the drums are clean, clear, and crisp. No shrill highs here. Voices are excellent and come through loud and clear, again using the full range of musical sound. All this good stuff and as an added bonus the songs are actually GREAT, as well as the band Elvis has surrounded himself with. I highly recommend this album.
