I have the t50rp mk3 and now the t5050 as well.
Really like the t5050, but TBH they sound more alike than I thought.

My main issues with the mk3 (with stock pads) is that it sometimes can be harsh and sounds kinda closed in. On rare occasions, on songs with a tons of bass, the bass is a bit overwhelming.
Also the fit is passable but not great.
Preferated pads mostly fixed the harshness and make the soundstage feel bigger, But the bass becomes too lean. And the fit still not great due to the headband.
Most of the time the mk3 sounds good but those occasional issues and the fit can interfere with enjoying the music.

The 5050 sounds great out of the box. It's never harsh and the bass still great but never overdone (somehow the bass feels the same as mk3 but without the problems I had occasionally). And the fit is much much better. The strap make a big different and its sits so well on my head.

TLDR;
The t5050 sounds like a fixed t50rp mk3.
It sounds better, without the occasional harshness and much more comfortable.
(but I will note that sometimes they sounds almost the same)
I have it for a while now and I like it a lot.
Most likely, if you put T60 ear pads on T50mk3, the differences will be barely noticeable.

The cable are adequate. I’m sure they work as well as any other cable, but Fostex knew better, since they adopted a more versatile connection method with the T60RP.

They sound very good, though.

What is everyone's favorite pads for the t5050 so far. I've been using the Modhouse Xenon Suede and they sound really nice. They came with a little baffle adapter but I didn't end up using them.
For now I’m using these $5 pads. They are 105mm and 110mm both 20mm height.

Plus the 90 degree locking termination would just won't work on wood cup. Out of the box, the T5050 is by far the best tuned in the RP series.

any t60 owners in here can verify? it comes with 3.5 to 3.5mm unbalanced cable but is still balanced, correct? only one cable?

I never updated my amazon saga. they unceremoniously cancelled my order 12/2 the day before expected delivery date. and then sent me an email saying but hey check out sellers who are selling the t50. but anyhow, I just sold my last es100 and q5k to raise some headphone money. I just received my fiio k7 and I'm not taking full advantage of it. lol I am thinking about buying from pifferia but am worried about how import charges play out. I've also been hunting down t60s for hahas and not break the hard $300 budget too much. I may be able to score for $265ish w/o import charges so basically same problem with t50. also, I assume the t60s will need more modding to get a desired sound. trying to get some feedback before I make up my mind. while the t50/50s are very desirable for their LE status, look and ootb sound the t60 has a straight 3.5mm connector which is a big plus in it's own right. and the wood for some reason is a big plus. I wish there were more hp options with wood cups that aren't a mortgage payment. the higher price tag also eats into the mod budget but who knows, they might sound great to me with just a pad change.
