OK, just a couple quick snaps with the phone. Sorry, my desk is cluttered and I need to re-organize since the OTL tube amp (RAAL-Requisite PDT-1a) that I'm feeding with the JNOG2 is on top of a speaker and not ideally how I want to arrange this chain. Never enough desk space :frowning2:
This DAC is great, I love the simplicity and fantastic sound paired with a good amp. I think Cheap Audioman's review above highlights it well especially the bass characteristics.
The Atrium with classic rock, metal, funk, R&B and similar genres are superb on tube amps and I'm noticing this DAC opens up more types of music for me on the ZMF. Right now enjoying some heavy-beat/dark electro Front Line Assembly on this set up.

Is there a volume control with this DAC.
There are 3 stages of gain and can be changed just by pressing the right button on front. This is a DAC not a amp so I always find that a strange question.

I am curious which wood did you select for your case?

I selected the cedar wood since it has a nice grain. It came out nice and smooth with a matte finish.

Nice choice. I would have made my fine wood worker father happy because that was my guess. I was little surprised by the number of photos of J2 with the aluminum case. Aside from sound, to me, the main selling point of the Geshelli are all of the cool wood options.

There’s a new version of the JNOG2, the JNOG2 Socketed (or J2S). You can choose to have different opamps installed. I ordered one with Sparkos opamps. Won’t be able to do a comparison, but I saw on youtube someone comparing Sparkos opamps to other types on a Burson Playmate. Apparently there was a significant improvement in sound.

Was about to buy a much more expensive dac, but this J2 with upgraded opamps is intriguing. Is this thing a bit of a giant-killer, or just a competent dac for the money?

Cheap Audioman from youtube prefers it over the Denafrips Ares, but of course these things are also a matter of taste. According to net reviews it somewhat punches above its' pricepoint.

The sound is fantastic IMO (selected the AKM chip) but it lacks digital display read-outs of the inputs, frequency/bit-rates or other measurements, bells and whistles.
It is a basic DIY kind of board setup with simple controls that are not intuitive but not difficult to operate after checking the manual.
I've been using it past several months as my primary DAC and been very pleased with it. Sometimes I accidently push the button that has three gain settings and must reset occasionally since there is no indication it switched. It could use some design refinement in that regard but otherwise I like the simple concept.

Ordered an AKM J2 Socketed with the upgraded opamps. (Not sure how long it will take to get here.) May still get a "better" DAC in the future, but at this price, why not give it a shot? Have always found my OG Schiit Bifrost MB to be a little hashy and congested. Quick question: With the multibit (R2R-style) dac, everyone says to leave it powered on at all times, even when not in use. Does it matter for a DS chip DAC one way or the other?

I purchased J2 ESS9026PRO, later, Geshelli J2 in a short time to provide more chip options, op-amp upgrade options, and there is just news that this year to come out of the 4499 chip DAC.
I feel some strange, whether GESHELLI think ESS9026 models immature or defective?

Now can still order 9026 pro & 9038 q2m J2 DAC from GESHELLI.COM, I think the difference between these two chips is mainly in the heat, the sound is basically the same.
Later out of the AMK version and op-amp upgrade version, and GENO said akm 4499 DAC aroused my interest, but the hands already have 9026 pro version is worth changing to other versions?
My sense of listening, 9026pro J2 sound in the price point of 299 U.S. dollars is very good, but for more than 800 U.S. dollars DAC, not a giant killer.
