How does one go about shopping for a headphone amp?

What are the specs you look for?

How does one determine the needs of their headphone ?

How do you identify amps that meet those needs through the amp specs?

Wow, this is a loaded question, and you will likely get all kind of different answers.

I would keep it generic:
1. Budget (how much you want to spend)
2. What other equipment do you already have? Headphone? DAC?
3. What is your media source?
4. Do you think you will "expand" your system in the future?

I think those are some of the things to consider before starting to narrow down on a headamp. I am not sure if there is a universal headphone amp DAC that will have the approval from everyone.

Maybe, just maybe "RME ADi-2 DAC fs may come close as one that seems to be a good all around and will not offend anyone on the forum recommendation.
