What are you playing? Local? Roon? Tidal or Qobuz stream? I really am not able to reproduce your issues. The RS6 works like a dream as USB DAC.

I've tried with Apple music, as well as local files with different players. It'll happen once in say 3-5 minutes, easy to miss sometimes but it gets annoying during a long listening session. I tried on different machines etc. I might try factory reset too.

I have a funny feeling that Apple Music is the culprate and not the laptop itself

I also had the problem with local files outside of apple music. I'm testing youtube now with apple music turned off.

Update: yep just happened with youtube 3 minutes in.. just a little stutter like a dusty cd player. grrr

Update 2: I tried factory reset/wipe as per Hiby instructions, the issue is still present unfortunately.

Where are those local files residing? On your laptop or your network?

The files are local on my laptop - the skipping is not related to the network (I though the same at first as you)

Maybe try a different cable, or a different USB port? Also, try using a USB hub between your laptop and HiBy.

I tried different things (including an ifi iusb 3.0 in between), it's not that. However I now tried few 192khz and 96khz tracks and it didn't stutter! I'm back on 44khz and it's jumping again here and there.. almost certainly firmware/buffer related problem, but what do I know.

You might be on to something.. I just checked a few 16/44.1 tracks and I also get glitches here and there. Both in ASIO mode and in Wasapi (exclusive) mode... They do not occur often, but at least they definitely do...

In a way I'm somewhat relieved to hear that others are also experiencing this - I thought I was going crazy!

The stutters don't occur often but listen to music for an hour or so and they add up.. it's like having a mosquito in the room, can be ignored for a while but in the back of my mind I know it's near and will zip past my ear once in a while and increasingly annoy me.

Anyway I conveyed my detective work to Hiby just now via email, I recommend if you have time you also drop them an email via their contact - as they mentioned they weren't able to replicate it, but if more people let them know they can investigate in more depth and provide a firmware update.

I plan on using the Hiby RS6 also with lineout as USB DAC on my main system and I really would like a stutter free experience.

ps - thanks for helping me out with the investigation

WASAPI (Exclusive) mode means that we're running Windows 10 Version 1703 or later, therefore we could gather some log files and send them to HiBy for further investigations

BTW, playing 44/16 files would only engage the 45.1584 MHz clock inside RS6 while 96/24 and 192/24 (i.e. multiples of 48 KHz) ones etc. should switch to another 49.152 MHz clock accordingly.

Maybe we could also download some 352.8/24 (i.e. multiples of 44.1 KHz) files and then let's see if the 45.1584 MHz clock were acting up whenever USB DAC mode is enabled?

I certainly hope that could be resolved by firmware updates of some sort, otherwise it might never be fixed if I weren't mistaken.

I'd imagine if it were a hardware-clock related problem, 44.1khz should also be acting up when playing files locally on the RS6 itself, which isn't happening. Although Hiby have insinuated it might be a hardware problem, I'm still thinking more likely it's software..

(I actually made some screenshots just in case further editing might occur afterwards.)

Not trying to be cheeky at all, and it's certainly NOT a snarky question.

Can't have your cake and eat it too, was it actually happening or NOT happening?
  • 44/16 and 352.8/24 = 45.1584 MHz clock (multiples of 44.1)
  • 96/24 and 192/24 = 49.152 MHz clock (multiples of 48)
That's the whole point of testing those 352.8 KHz files.

It's just as I stated in those posts, in addition I did some more tests now with other bitrates too.

44.1khz has issues in usb DAC mode.

48khz has issues in usb DAC mode (just tested now)

88khz no issues usb DAC mode (just tested now)

96khz and above, no issues usb DAC mode

No issues when playing music on RS6 directly - on any bitrate

@Joe Bloggs I see that you noticed this post. I can confirm the same behaviour when connected as external DAC to a Windows 11 XPS 13. Would you be able to raise this internally in Hiby for investigation and remediation? Cheers!
